    newbe with generator questions

Kenneth The Onan starter requires 12 volts. The two 6 volt batteries should be wired in series to get 12 volt. When attempted to charge them with a 12 volt charger put the leads at the outside terminals of the two batteries with the inside terminals hooked together. Those two batteries replace...

Want to go see a Futureliner while at the GMCMI Amana rally?

I toured one at an FMCA convention in Southern California many years ago. But I would be interested in seeing this one. Emery Stora 77 Kingsley Frederick, CO > > I just called Dennis to see if I could bring some GMCers over when we have the GMCMI Amana rally. For a private viewing of his...

    King Jack Antenna

I looked at Amazon and it appears they sell a King Jack head that can be used on the Batwing mast so you wouldn’t have to replace the inside crank or mast if your Batwing ones are in good shape. Emery Stora 77 Kingsley Frederick, CO > > I'll second the part about getting the additional base...

    Radiator/Tranny

Don’t use a stop leak that is in an oil base. Barrs and others sell that. The oil can interfere with the antifoam additives in antifreeze. So be sure to use a dry powder. General Motors, for over at least the last 70 years has put stop leak powder into their vehicles as a preventative measure...

tranny gasket part # (without filter?)

I have used NAPA 1-4525 for many years. It is a rubberized gasket and I use it without sealant and it doesn’t leak like the cork gaskets do. The last time I bought a few they were about $4.00 each. If not in stock at your local NAPA they can probably get it in a couple of days. Emery Stora 77...

Removing the radiator in a 78 GMC.

I really don’t find it all that hard to raise the front of the GMC and drop the radiator out without cutting the frame. We did Ken Burton’s at a GMCMI rally in Delaware and I recently (in Jan) replaced my radiator by just unbolting it and dropping it out the bottom. It didn’t seem very hard and...

Stock gauges. How to calibrate. As you just don't really know the real temp, or oil pressure numbers.

However, I don’t know if he meant a volltmeter or an ammeter. He said he wanted to read 13.39 volts and that would take a voltmeter. Emery Stora > > 10-4 on the ammeter, Johnny...most people don't realize the value of that particular instrument, but you explained it well with few words. > --...

    GMC "Time Machine

The price seems a bit high. After sitting for 22 years all the rubber needs to be replaced. I see in the picture that it has steel wheels with 16.5” tires. One should be able to buy a motorhome with the new Alcoa 16” wheels for a bit less. Emery Stora 77 Kingsley Frederick, CO > > 1 owner...

    Drum brakes

What was I supposed to learn? Wider is better for pain in a message. How does this translate to “wider ain’t better” for brakes? Yes, you have less pounds/ sq inch with wide shoes but you have more sq inches so the braking force is the same. You should get less wear on the shoes though...

Required air pressure for quad bag rear suspension

I agree with Ken. I’ve had mine towed three times with the front lifted. 350 miles once and 200-250 miles the other two times. All times I pumped the airbags to maximum height and shut off the valves to the air bags. No damages at any time. Emery Stora 77 Kingsley Frederick, CO > > You guys...

    GMC Upfitters

Bill Brant wrote an excellent history of the GMC. It can be read here: https://www.gmccolonial.com/gmc-motorhome-history The upfitters built on a Transmode chassis which GMC made available from 1975 to 1978. In this history Bill says: “Some of the motorhome upfitters were Avion, Coachmen...
