Full Height Cockpit Windows

Are the full height windows worth it? When I talked to cinnabar I was advised against. I had a broken side window and inquired about waiting to fix it for the full sized windows to come in. They said I shouldn't convert.

Why?

While I can't say if they are "worth it" to anyone else, I have my reasons...

I store my coach at a storage facility. To access the storage lot, I have to enter a code at a pillar. I can't reach down to that pillar through the "toll" window. With a full-height window I could lean out to access the panel. Otherwise I have to park at the pillar, exit the side door, enter my code, run back to the coach and sit, then get to the gate before it starts to close....

For those with deflector "wings", I can see how that investment may no longer work with taller windows. I feel the taller window may be of benefit more when parked or at low-speed than when traveling.

I'm pretty sure Keith was asking why Cinnabar was advising against installing full height cockpit windows. I'm also pretty sure that Cinnabar prefers OEM everything, with a few exceptions.

When the cockpit windows were first announced I called Applied and asked Nick if full height screens would be available - he said at the time there were no plans for screens.

Full height wind wings would be unnecessary, unwise and problematic for a number of reasons. There should be no major issue with reinstalling original wind wings on the full height windows - they'll still move the same amount of air albeit* with some different airflow characteristics.

The "toll window" also takes a toll on my patience at keypad pedestals - we're not trucks and not cars and the little window opening makes it difficult to reach either.

* Christo, please confirm that I was the first to use the word 'albeit' on the forum. 😉

Since these haven't been available in over a decade, my hunch is whoever said that hasn't driven a few thousand miles with full height cockpit windows. These windows are the reason I'm able to drive in 100°F weather without cockpit A/C . The right amount of fresh air at all speeds, a better view of the road, and they look the way they should (post #15 on this thread).

Sorry Richard, 'albeit' returns 26 pages of forum search hits... ;-)

Sorry, struck out this time.

But with a bit of loquaciousness, you could increase your statistical likelihood of busting out a forum-first word. Oh, whoops, I think I just got one.

For me, I need to poke my head out the window so I can ensure that 1/3 or my tire tread is hanging off the lift when I drive it on. There's little margin for error here. I can poke my head out the factory toll window and manage to drive forward, but it is quite unpleasant.

Yes I was asking why cinnabar said not to convert.
Personally I want them really bad!
Cinnabar is the keeper of the OEM flame. If its not stock, it's wrong, in their world. They sell very few aftermarket modifications, but all the original parts and supply the 'vendors' with many of their parts.

So it's not surprising they are not supportive of the fill height toll windows.

These windows may not be stock but the OEM toll windows were useless to me. Plus, my OEM windows were leaking badly on the passenger side.

Ten years...? Damn, other people are getting old! 😉 Time seems to have kicked in the afterburners.

I'd like to see a couple of close up photos of a full height window, particularly from the inside. Would you oblige, please?

Polemic

Okay, I have a first usage instance - my job here is done!

Page 1 of this thread: post #11 has exterior photos (thanks Ed), and post #14 has interior photos.
Thanks Kendra (and Ed). That's very helpful!

Like I said, I'd only seen one full height window and the A pillar inner flange had been cut back (poorly!) as the window frame extrusion didn't matter well with the A pillar extrusion. I was very much not interested in the full height windows because I thought that was how they were all installed!

The A pillar looks to have not been modified in any way. Is that correct? If so I'm getting on the list!

Not entirely useless. Someone had locked themselves out of their coach at a really and Eric Tanner was able to crawl in through that tiny toll window!

It's important to carry a spare Eric Tanner if you have the original windows. 😉

I mostly use my toll window to reach in and grab my keys from the ignition.

And to set the gas cap on my arm rest so I don't drive off and leave it on the pump.

What's the skinny on the windows now? Any day now??
