Hello all,
I have been scouring the web for a pair of full height cockpit windows for my Glacier. It’s my understanding that 200 were produced by Bounds, took a while to sell, and are now sold out and impossible to find. Wanted to try my luck here in the hopes that someone knows something I don’t.

Thanks!
Ferd

Try Jim K. at Applied GMC. I believe of the 200 made that the two Jims both sold them.

Jim K. is probably your best hope. The problem for Jim is he has to invest a lot of money in the quantity ordered and then it might take 3 or 4 years to sell them all. I once worked out a deal for factory built windshields with ceramic tint installed. They started out wanting an initial order of 200, then changed to 100, and finally 50 PAIRS minimum. Just about the time we were going to offer them to see how much interest there was, the company got sold and the new owners dropped out of the automotive glass market.

If you can not sell them in a reasonable amount of time you have a lot of money tied up in inventory. Also some states charge a once a year inventory tax.

Jim mentioned a similar situation happening with these Cockpit windows. He said the first company who manufactured them has since been purchased by a larger glass manufacturer who has less interest in doing small scale contracts like this. Hopefully I can start some sort of petition to at least show that there will be a certain number of them sold right when they become available.

You really need to work it with Jim K. I believe Jim B. owns the design unlike the other side and rear windows that company makes and own.

JimK's site has announced a 2024 production run. I don't know the final price.

I checked with JimB just now, he confirmed these are going back into production and JimK will distribute.

Previous owner had these installed on my 1978 at the Co-Op in 2016. I've found this an excellent upgrade - just the right amount of wind on the road.

Applied GMC part# GM23-23.068.1.1
COMING SOON IN 2024. PUT YOUR ORDER IN TO RESERVE YOUR COCKPIT WINDOW. THERE WILL BE A $20.00 NONREFUNDABLE FEE SHOULD YOU CANCEL.

Applied isn't accepting purchase or deposit yet, but this is good news.

Since Applied's image is little more than a thumbnail that appears decades old, does anyone have better pictures to share? I'd be curious in a straight-on side view with someone sitting in the seat, and perhaps a view from the inside. Just looking to gain some perspective on these things.

Paul,

I asked about the possibility of a group shipment to a single location to save shipping costs; yourself, me, and perhaps Kelvin. They were not yet prepared to discuss this, but it may be an option. Do you know of anyone else in Oregon who might be interested in a group-buy/shipping?

I tried but it attempted to charge me shipping, so I just called and ended up speaking with JimK's wife, Grace, which I thoroughly enjoyed, so was glad I just called :)
Were you able to get a feel for how many pre-orders they require to place their order with the manufacturer? And how close we are at this point? One person indicated there were around 10 pre-orders in place a week ago. I imagine the required amount to make this feasible is substantially greater than that.
