Hello everyone, I'm new here and wanted to introduce myself. I live in the UK and bought my 1976 GMC Eleganza II on eBay almost 5 years ago. The
engine needed replacing but other than that, she was in pretty good original shape.
I'm currently in the New York area having traveled from Fallon NV to New Orleans and then up here over the past month. This is only my second trip,
the first trip was last year up to Grant's Pass, down the West Coast and then onto the Grand Canyon and back to Fallon. The more I travel, the more I
appreciate the sheer brilliance that went into the design of these beautiful machines (and the quality). It's hard to believe they're over 40 yrs old.
I'm really happy with my old rig and I just love driving her around, even though the alignment is out and I've probably got the wrong tire pressures
and I'm probably doing a thousand things wrong, it's a learning curve and it's great fun to progress through the phases of owning, or being owned by,
a GMC Motorhome.
Right now, I'm kinda broken down,I need to overhaul my alternator and brake master cylinder (and try fix a couple of roof leaks) but it's all part of
the experience. Luckily, she held together until I dropped my lady fiend, Lynda, off at JFK. And then, almost as if in protest, she stalled and
wouldn't start and I had to switch the batteries around to get out of the airport terminal. (Okay, Okay, chill out! I didn't know what the boost
button was for at that stage of the game) But I know Lynda wouldn't have minded being stranded in a Wal-Mart car park for a few days, it's all part of
the adventure.
Anyhoo, once I've ironed out these minor problems, I'm heading back to the UK till the next trip, probably back to Fallon via Canada, who knows? In
the meantime, does anyone have any suggestions where I might leave this baby somewhere on the east side and close(ish) to an international airport?
Ideally, not too expensive, around a dollar a day seems the going rate? I don't mind driving a few hundred miles from New York.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Kind regards to all.
Jose and Lynda.
