Yesterday, the Vintage RVing came in the mail and I opened it last night. (Thank You Kim)

There is a good article about breaking in a rebuilt engine, the text has a lot that I think is good to read.

The diagram of coolant flow is about as wrong as it could be. It shows the coolant flow absolutely backwards. They could almost correct it by
turning all the little arrows the other way. They also miss the point that the coolant flow is around the cylinders and then back up the head and the
in between is controlled by the holes in the head gasket.

What I do not know is if that picture came with the article. Please read the note inside the front cover.

Whatever, I still value the publication and again, I thank all those involved for the effort to assemble it.

Matt

Leave it to Matt to actually look at the drawings with an eye towards
correctness. I looked at that same drawing, and thought "Well, let me see,
radiator?, check, Hoses ? check, water pump? check. Thermostat? check.
Didn't even think to look to see if the coolant path was correct. Good
catch, Matt.

Jim,

Thanks, but the only reason I published that note is that we have many people reading this board that don't have much experience. They need to know
these things, and if they can't take what we say to the bank, where can they go....

Note that the picture made no note of a water pump! Britannica probably hasn't changed the diagram since they first put it in the "book" somewhere around 1921 or so.

The thermostat is where it is in the discharge from the engine block to allow the engine to get to operating temperature before opening and initiating the cooling cycle!

Thank You Matt

You always provide good information. But please note we are all in isolation and can't go to the bank.

With the help from this board and I have gotten to actually start and drive my GMC.

Matt maybe the reverse flow block is an LT1 example, wrong for us. I don't have my copy yet for ref. Also when do we get the parts interchange?
Mine is several years old.

John,
It isn't quite right for an LT1 either.

If you didn't get the substitution book and the roster, you might not have gotten the fall "Vintage" either.
Send Kim a note. You may have gotten slipped to the digital delivery (I did).
