What's your startup ritual?

I really value simplicity, so I'm staying away from fuel injection systems for the 455. That said, I really can't stand the looks of concern you get when your 53 year old Motorhome cranks for more than 10 seconds. šŸ˜… it's even worse when the damn v-belts squeal. I would love to do a serp-belt setup one day šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

For a carb gmc(mine for the first 9 years, and others i drive occasionally)

The aux fuel pump deal works great.

So switch the tank to aux. hear the pump. Press the gas pedal a few times. (3 works on most). Then start
It up. After it running, switch gas to main. It is good to ā€œprimeā€ the carb. But very good to give that electric pump some exercise as well as the selector valve. Usually starts quicker..

My coach has efi now. So I just start it and drive.

Keith,

Not my work.I cheated and copied off the computer.

Carburetors deliver fuel at significantly lower pressures than fuel injection, creating a more pronounced pressure drop as the fuel expands through the venturi. This rapid expansion and the subsequent vaporization (evaporation) of the liquid fuel cause an endothermic (heat-absorbing) chemical state change, which heavily cools the incoming air-fuel mixture.By contrast, modern fuel injectors operate under much higher pressures and are typically mounted directly into a hot engine block or cylinder head, absorbing more radiant engine heat before the fuel ever atomizes.

You take care and have a wonderful evening.

By the way , after five years , i'm still in love with my micro level.

Take care,
Tom K
Don't forget the fuel supply to a port injection system has continual flow. The fuel will probably absorb some heat but is being refreshed often enough to minimize that issue.

I pulled this info concerning belts off this forum, or the GMCMI forum. With this info, I purchased an "A" belt from Tractor Supply. So far so good. The previous alternator belts I had to replace twice in 1 year. Oh, and no squealing. Wish I could credit the folks that did all the research and posted this info, but I failed to download their names. Bad on me. Perhaps someone can chip in with their names. They deserve the credit.

Industrial or Implement Belts
Many GMCers have had excellent results with these belts that are designed to handle up to 4 times more horsepower than automotive belts.
Industrial belts use a lettering system for sizing specifications. The "A" size industrial belts are virtually the same dimensions as the "4L" belts our GMCs use but are built to more strict tolerances. If you decide to try an "A" industrial belt, get them in about 1" shorter size. "A" belts are specified by the inside circumference rather than the outside as our "4L" belts are. Therefore, you must specify a belt that is approximately 2" shorter to allow for the thickness of the belt. Then, add 1" because of their fractionally greater width (1/64").
Therefore, the belts used in our GMCs would be:
Alternator ‐ A56
Power Steering – A44
Air Conditioner ‐ A61 *A59 for the 403 engine.
