What Air Soloenoids should I use?

So I need to be able to supply solenoid valves for the MicroLevel for people that have no system or the Power Level system.
theres a ton of choices, from nice Parker valves at $40 each to $8 Chinese valves.

I'd like to offer a mid quality valve and if someone wants better, or cheaper, valves they can use their own.

So does anyone have any advice?

Thanks!
Keith

I've had a lot of luck with SMC valves and Parker as well. There are plenty
of ways to cut corners but a quality solenoid is worth the piece of mind. I
had SMC valves on a daily driven pick up truck for 10yrs with no faulty
solenoids.

Keith,
I was in the Instrument Engineering Business for almost 40 years. Used a lot of Parker Hannifin solenoids along with the Asco brand over the years and there are a number of US made units that are good too. Since our coaches sit for sometimes long periods of time I would suggest using the better quality solenoid. The offshore solenoids are at best suspect for porosity or material quality. I would also suggest that you ask for and look at the manufacturers MTBF (Mean time between failure) testing for the solenoids and all US manufactures as well Europeans will be able to provide that. I would avoid the cheaper offshore units. Several years back I build a replacement Electro Level 1 solenoid pack out of Parker 316 SS solenoids. Doing that would not be cost effective for keeping your price point down. Good is always better than cheap.

Thanks Guys, from what I see Parker is the best, SMC is really good and the air ride guys sell them all over the place.
So in interest of availability/performance and reliability I'm probably going to go with SMC.

Have you decided on what size valve? 1/4,3/8 or 1/2. SMC 3/8 tend to be
easier to get and the cheapest. 1/4" would be the best fit for the
smoothest fill/dump. 1/2" is overkill and the most expensive. I'm using
accuair 1/4" valve block now and is very smooth. Just some things to think
about some more. In case you didn't already have enough to ponder. Haha.

Definitely 1/4" no need for speed. In fact a 1/4" valve is faster than the rest of the system.
But if a 3/8 valve is cheaper I may use them.

Accuair is crazy expensive!

You want to use the solenoid with the highest flow coefficient or the the CV rating. The spec sheet should give you the CV rating of the unit that your considering to use. The size of the valve either 1/8”, 1/4” or 3/8” is not a good indication of how much the valve will pass. A larger sized valve could actually have smaller internals than a 1/4” valve. Be careful on what you buy, check the spec sheets on CV ratings.

Hi Keith. You are probably going to use a solenoid for ~ 150 psi rating. In looking for a brand to use maybe consider who has rebuild kits
available. Also maybe consider installing the 2 way valve between compressor and the bag backwards with the inlet side to the bag. This should hold
the bag pressure against the valve seat instead of treating it as back pressure trying to lift the seal off the spring and will leak past the seal
when the spring gets weaker over time.

Keith,
The solenoids on my '77 with an EL1 hold air and seem to work fine. Can I buy your system and use my existing solenoids?

If so, what is the cost of your controller kit without solenoids?

Thanks,
