update on pullers??

Not so fast there pardner...

A comma is the delimiter between addresses. Walters name has quotes, but
it also has a comma in it, effectively ending the address at the comma.

Just put quotes around my address and lets get to the bottom of this.

Ok we have two Walters, but the second Walter has a period in his name
another special character. (as in gmchotorhome.com) Don Miller also has
a period after his initial. For the future Tom, just eliminate
everything except the actual email address (in the form xxx) and
separate them with a comma. The other stuff is not necessary and can
cause problems.

>point is john your e-mail was taken directly from your e-mail to me.
>Look at it! Noi quotations?

That is not the point. It is beside the point. Look at it now...
It has quotations. It has nothing to do with my address but is does
introduce an area for your distribution-list software module to get
screwed up. That's why I say, just use the email addresses and delete
all the other stuff. They are not part of the address and if someone
puts a comma in their name, even inside of quotes, your distribution-list
software can't handle it.

Thanks Walter... that is exactly the case.

When Tom responds individually to you, his system can see that your
address has nothing to do with "Bright, Walter" but only with
But when Tom sends to a distribution
list, the software is not smart enough to distinguish between a (,)
inside of quotes and a (,) outside of quotes.

Tom, does your software make and save distribution list automatically for
you, such that you can just say mail to Puller and it handles it? Or are
you making the list manually each time from your address book?

I made the list manually by copying each of your e-mail addresses dirctly
from your response to me.

Who did get the message from Tom on 6/5/99?

Ok I give up... if anyone gets a Puller message from Tom, would they post
it here once, so the 20 or so folks who don't get the message will be up
to date. I think it will be less annoying than 20 people sending
messages saying they didn't get the message.

Thanks for helping lighten things up Lanier. We got through that without
anyone quiting or walking off in a huff. We're getting better! :-)

I didn't get it either! But, I've read it on a later post so I don't need It
now.

Tom...

There are some programs that do that for you but mine is like yours so I
will pass on what I found out, the hard way.

I think you know, I'm not saying you did anything wrong... and I realize
some folks' return addresses come through with quotes and some don't. It
doesn't matter when you are communicating one to one. But when you have
multiple addresses on the TO: line, each address is supposed to be
separated from the next by a , and it is pretty literal about that.
There are not supposed to be any spaces but the " " take care of that,
usually. I went through this 2 months ago when my wife had a heart
attack and I had a list as long as yours, to send updates several times a
day. It is probably not worth the bother now, but for the future, it
will work without a hitch, if you will just delete everything except the
actual address for each person and separate with a comma:
xxx, zzz, yyy (no "Bright, Walter" ddd)

Then once you have it done right once, save a copy of that message and
cut and paste the TO: line right into the new message. There are some
ways in some programs to automate this, but the above will work.
One other thing I learned is, put yourself at the end of the list (your
email address) and then if the software gives up in the middle because of
too many errors, or as someone said too many recipients as defined by
your ISP, you will have a warning, because you won't get a copy actually
mailed back to you.

Again let me thank you for doing all this for us.

Although I didn't receive either, I think it would be good to
understand how multiple addresses need to be for future reference. Do
the email addr need the < > around them?

Also, Tom I am in no big hurry. Got 10k more miles before due.

Thanks for getting them,
Bill

I just got back into town last night after a 9 day trip w/o Internet
connection.

Sorry, I didn't get the e-mail either ... but assume the puller will come
when it's done. No immediate need (but I may see if a second one is
available).

If that is the case than it is getting even more confusing. the e-mail I
