Update on Onan oil pan

A couple of folks had expressed interest in my Onan oil pan dilemna, so
thought I'd update the list.

I have a good friend who is a professional welder/fabricator; I took the
motorhome to him expecting to have him tack weld the bung back into the pan;
it evidently was only pressed in from the factory and had come out when I
attempted to unscrew the plug to drain the oil.

He slid under the Onan on a creeper and told me that if I'd remove the
muffler (very easy job) he could go all the way around the bung with his
wire gun. By welding in short bursts with some cool-down time between, I
don't believe there was any oil burned in the pan to speak of. Never a wisp
of smoke. Heck, the paint on the pan was hardly scorched. Now I KNOW it
won't come out again. I mixed up some Devcon (similar to JB weld) and filled
the weld and the radius for cosmetics and to be sure that any pinholes in
the weld wouldn't seep---filled 'er up with Mobil One and not a drop. Put
the new oil pressure sender and filter in, fired her off, and---guess what:
it runs great and doesn't shut off like it did. I'm a happy camper now.

What was the last word on the Onan parts buy that was being organized a
coupla weeks ago? The little shop that I visited here charged me $7.95 for
the filter; the oil pressure sender was less than that. Are these good
prices? Frankly, from what I'd read, I was expecting more.

Hi Travis

Glad you got the oil pan fixed. We looked for you at
Fredericksburg. Rallied in a great park there with 58 other coaches. Had
some other new members join while visiting us.

The next Classic's rally will be Sept. 28 - 30 at Grand Lake,
Oklahoma. That's up northeast of Tulsa, I think. I'll have to look it
up. They say it's real pretty up there. We'll try to go and hope to see
you up there.

Thanks, Billy. I was really sorry I couldn't make Fredricksburg---I sure
wanted to. I'll try to go to the Grand Lake version; I've been there before
as my wife has an aunt who has a cabin on Grand Lake. It's quite nice and
they don't call it Grand for nothing---it's huge. About a 500 mile drive for
me though.

Travis-
It is about a 2000 mile run for us and we are going to go. You would even be
able to meet Skippy the Dog!

I've been hearing about Skippy; guess I'd better figure on going.

Surely the 2000 miles is round trip, isn't it? I can't think of anywhere
that would be 2000 miles from Oklahoma...

I look forward to seeing you there---assuming I can get loose! Sure have
been covered up; surely I'll be caught up by then.

Travis

I looked on a map of the US. We in Connecticut are almost 6 inches from
Colorado.

I thought we were talking about Grand Lake, which is in eastern Oklahoma;
are you talking about Durango, Colorado? (I want to go to that one too if I
can...)

Travis

ps---I'm probably about 2 inches from Durango on your map; maybe an inch and
a half...Lubbock is dead center in the panhandle of Texas...

Don't have that information yet. I'll post it on the Classic's site when I
find out.

Nope. Talking about the Mountainairs rally in Grand Lake, CO third week of
August. I guess Grand Lake is a popular name.
