In case you have not already learned this, repairing a '70 something GM
tilt steering column in not a job for the faint of heart. They a a
terrible collection of plastic, pot metal and hundreds of pieces. Having a
totally cleaned work bench with the entire upper column removed from the
vehicle laid out on clean toweling with excellent lighting is a huge help.
Hunched up over the fragile plastic dash is almost assured method of
losing pieces. I hate working on them. There are several GMCers out there
that have a major amount of experience with them. My learning curve stopped
at the turn signal cancellation cam. Below that, I don't like to mess with
them.
My advice? Get an expert to work on yours and pay attention to what
they do. This is not the last time that you are going to have to tweedle
around in there.
