Towing idea

I was at a Colonial Travelers GMC rally this past weekend, and a good point
was brought up on towing. I thought it might be useful to share here.

Many towing companies and insurance policies agree to tow to the nearest
repair shop that is capable. However, for the towing company this usually
translates to the nearest GM dealership. Obviously this will not help us
GMCers.

The idea put forward is to call ahead to the dealership to which they
propose to tow. Typically the dealership does not want the motorhome, and
then you have the argument for that shop not being capable. From this you
have a better chance of making the argument to take you where you know to be
a capable repair shop.

A good idea to remember.

Better yet, buy your insurance from someone like RV Alliance which
don't give you any argument as to where you want the vehicle towed.
They also seem to have very competitive prices on insurance.

I agree with David, the roster and Black List are always with me. The key
is to convince the towing company. Sometimes that call to the proposed
dealership is the way to win the argument.

I wish the direction of the discussion at the rally had been to call a
local owner (from your GMC MI Roster and/or The Black List) and ask where
in that area can you get your problem resolved by a competent GMC
mechanic. Then call your tower and when he arrives you can tell him where
you are going.

It may just be my attitude but I decide where my old girl is going, not
some 18 year old dispatcher thousands of miles away.

The best advice any owner, new or old can ever get in this regard, is
carry a list of people who know!
