Greetings,

I have a 1996 2 door Rav4 manual trans/4wheel drive that I am going pull behind my 78 Royale with Falcon2 tow bar. I realize that I must keep the
ignition on the car turned to the on position to unlock the steering & keep the 12v cig lighter/accessory plug hot for the supplemental braking system
for the Rav4.

I have previously installed a blade type fuse panel in the rear of my Royale with multiple extra terminals, replacing the old glass buss type fuse
box.

Is it possible to run a wired lead with say a 30 amp fuse from the blade fuse panel to the battery leads on the Rav4 to keep the Rav4 battery from
dying while towing?

I have only a 4 terminal trailer plug wired up to my Royale that I do not wish to replace, since I'm going to be using magnetic "trailer" lights in
the towed.

Thanks,
Amdgmcman

Alan,
since you do not wat to add another, use the running light to the coach
socket to ignition activation so current will go only when your engine is
on and wire that plug to the toad.
We just replace the plugs with additional pins.as it is better .
We are a Blue Ox dealer and installer so we do lot with SOB 's as well as
GMC.
Never hesitate to call us for information (800) 752-7502

Fuse both ends. 30 amps is too much. Fuse is to protect wire so size accordingly.

When I wired mine I used a 20 amp automatic circuit breaker at the coach a similar 20 amp breaker at the tow car battery. Number 12 wire should be ok.
I also changed out my 4 wire plug to a 6 wire plug but a separate wire would be ok.

If you really want the 30 amp fuse you will need #10 wire.

Do not start your car while the link is active. At the very least you will
blow the fuse.

To All,
This is the piece that I use on our towed (Honda CR-V). With my braking system it would sometimes run the battery down.

http://www.lslproducts.net/ToadChargePage.html

I bought the Toad-Charge Regulator only for $54.95 as I had all the other parts on hand and they get way too much for all the small pieces.

I will take some pictures of my installation tomorrow.

Here are some of the parts that I used for the hookup of the Todd-Charge unit.
http://www.lslproducts.net/ToadChargePage.html

Cable between the coach and the towed:
https://www.harborfreight.com/catalogsearch/result/index/?dir=asc&order=EAScore%2Cf%2CEAFeatured+Weight%2Cf%2CSale+Rank%2Cf&q=extension+cord

I used a circuit breaker like this:

I have a box on the back of the coach to plug into:
