All this talk about 6 wheel disc brakes makes me wish I had a couple grand
to have the system installed. In the mean time, I need too be sure I'm
getting all I can out of the oem system. I'm sure there are many many
others are in the same position.

Could a few of our resident experts please offer suggestions as to how
those of us us with the original systems can be sure we're getting as much
stopping power as possible?

Also, it would be helpful to hear recommendations for relatively
inexpensive improvements. For example, I've heard that slightly oversized
pads are available for the stock front calipers. Are they worthwhile?

We can't all do the "TSM shuffle", but need help to insure we don't "rear
end" our brethren.

Thanks for any advice you can offer.

1 1/16" wheel cylinders are Wagner F79767 or the 1 1/8" ones Bendix 29634

I would think the cheapest way is to either:

1. Add a power master system in place of the brake booster and master
cylinder, about $200.
2. Install a sensitized brake booster ($175) and over size brake cylinders
and new carbon metallic pads

Any idea what the part number or application is for the 1-1/16 cylinders?

Thanks Emery.

I've got a supposedly good (doesn't adveretise, but still busy) truck
mechanic coming over on Monday to check things out. I'll show him a copy of
your post.

Meanwhile, may I please impose for a few more specific questions.

1. Is it true that the 80mm calipers require more fluid to actuate, thus
resulting in a longer (closer to the floor) pedal stroke?

2. Would I gain braking power by replacing the oem pads with the larger
ones, while still using the oen calipers?

3. If I have the 80mm calipers put on, should I put on the larger pads too?

4. Can you give me a part number for the larger cylinders for the front bogey?

With a little help from y'all, us "rear drummers" will be able to avoid
disaster.

Guess we'd better have a case of cold ones for the guys I've pestered when
we get to Albuquerque.

Those of us only getting the digest sometimes submit posts asking questions
after the answers are posted because the answers haven't been "digested"

Emery and all, This is precisely what the Internet is designed to do. Which
is why, God forbid, of ANY politician or agency of government get his or its
grubby little, self-serving *^#@%^&* hands on the net for "da cherldrin," or
some other trumped up excuse (and God knows, they've got a million of 'em!),
America -- as most of us knew her -- will be pretty much over.
Can't EVER let that happen.
So, when the next effort to sieze control of the net comes down the pike --
probably as a result of the tragedy in Littleton -- we ALL must resist it.

You've answered my questions, and I'm sure many others can now optimize
their brakes without "breaking the bank".

Dick's right; this is exactly how it's supposed to work.

Sorry. I seem to be having problems getting messages from the list. Seems
that some of them are delayed for substantial periods of time while others
come in immediately. Probably something going on at my fly-by-night ISP.
Its been a while since they have had a major problem so I am sure that
there is some catastrophe looming on the horizon....
