Steering column support

Hi,

I've attached a pic from under my dash showing how my steering column is supported. Something is clearly wrong. I think the black 'strap' that holds up the dash should be bolted directly to the piece of black metal right above it. Those 2 nuts used as spacers are just wrong.

I'd be very grateful if someone with their dash open could take a pic to show me what it should look like.

Yes, it looks like the PO was trying to lower the column and note that the lower bolts are missing as well. Mac sells a lowering bracket that can solve that problem.

I would first try to ascertain if anything above that mount is hanging up full movement to its correct position. If all is good then yes bolt it up properly.

Be sure to support the entire column with something stout prior to pulling out those bolt extensions so that it doesn’t just drop to the driver seat and cause other damage. That column is quite heavy.

Here is what the column/bracket looks like installed.
