I am always amused at how similiar and yet how different we are. I
certain the "Netters' as a group are fairly representitive of the GMC MH
community overall.
The business of spares; Which one(s)? How Many?, Where to store them,
roof pod-Barn?
This remind me of a day when I had my coach into Sirum's for service.
Standing at the back door with another owner and chatting about this very
topic of Spare Parts. Which ones are essential? He had a water pump go
out once so now he carries a spare water pump. I heard that air bags blow
so I carry a spare air bag, etc , etc.
All of a sudden a GMC drives into Sirum's back lot pulling a small single
axle trailer. On the trailer is a beautifully painted GMC 455ci engine.
My comment? Now there is a guy who isn't taking ANY chances. He carries a
a spare engine!
Actually it was Jim O'Bryan who had rebuilt the engine and was bringing
it in for installation.
What is the point of this epistle? Well, I still carry the air bag cause
I already own it. I emptied my roof pod and got rid of it and most of the
"stuff" in it, like spare oil filters, spare radiator cap, spare
thermostat, etc. When I moved to a condo I got rid of more stuff. (That
is what Tom Warner needs to do- Move to a condo and give up the farm!)
I have even gotten my wife out the habit she developed when we used to
take the boat to the Bahamas where food was expensive and stores are far
and few. She used to load the boat with food for 3 months. She tried it
in the motorhome but I told her it was either food or her clothes; one
would have to go!
Now when I need something it is always available overnite (a litle bit
longer if the engine blows) but I can use my available space for
computers and clothes. (My better half brings anough clothes for 3
months, now!
Sorry to ramble but I am of the school that teaches us that, everything
needed for our Classic GMC is available somewhere, some time, some how.
While you are waiting would be a good time to get into a nice campground,
take a break and smell the roses.
Many Thanks to all the GMCnetFolk and to GMC Motorhome owners everywhere.
The Registry has now grown to 3,656 coaches which is about 1,000 more
than last year at this time. I truly apprecite all the TZE Hunters out
there who have helped to make this happen. I hope I get to number 12,921
soon 'cause this is becoming very time consuming.[G]
The Chinese say Gong Hsi Fa Tsai and the Japanese say Kin Nga Shi Nen!
And I say Happy New Year!
