I am always amused at how similiar and yet how different we are. I
certain the "Netters' as a group are fairly representitive of the GMC MH
community overall.

The business of spares; Which one(s)? How Many?, Where to store them,
roof pod-Barn?

This remind me of a day when I had my coach into Sirum's for service.
Standing at the back door with another owner and chatting about this very
topic of Spare Parts. Which ones are essential? He had a water pump go
out once so now he carries a spare water pump. I heard that air bags blow
so I carry a spare air bag, etc , etc.

All of a sudden a GMC drives into Sirum's back lot pulling a small single
axle trailer. On the trailer is a beautifully painted GMC 455ci engine.
My comment? Now there is a guy who isn't taking ANY chances. He carries a
a spare engine!

Actually it was Jim O'Bryan who had rebuilt the engine and was bringing
it in for installation.

What is the point of this epistle? Well, I still carry the air bag cause
I already own it. I emptied my roof pod and got rid of it and most of the
"stuff" in it, like spare oil filters, spare radiator cap, spare
thermostat, etc. When I moved to a condo I got rid of more stuff. (That
is what Tom Warner needs to do- Move to a condo and give up the farm!)

I have even gotten my wife out the habit she developed when we used to
take the boat to the Bahamas where food was expensive and stores are far
and few. She used to load the boat with food for 3 months. She tried it
in the motorhome but I told her it was either food or her clothes; one
would have to go!

Now when I need something it is always available overnite (a litle bit
longer if the engine blows) but I can use my available space for
computers and clothes. (My better half brings anough clothes for 3
months, now!

Sorry to ramble but I am of the school that teaches us that, everything
needed for our Classic GMC is available somewhere, some time, some how.
While you are waiting would be a good time to get into a nice campground,
take a break and smell the roses.

Many Thanks to all the GMCnetFolk and to GMC Motorhome owners everywhere.
The Registry has now grown to 3,656 coaches which is about 1,000 more
than last year at this time. I truly apprecite all the TZE Hunters out
there who have helped to make this happen. I hope I get to number 12,921
soon 'cause this is becoming very time consuming.[G]

The Chinese say Gong Hsi Fa Tsai and the Japanese say Kin Nga Shi Nen!
And I say Happy New Year!

Dave I invite you to my house to try and convert my wife. Better yet will
see you in Florida when we get there. She will not leave with less than a
full load (in the motorhome that is). Afraid of starving, getting cold,
banks not open so lots of cash, 50 pounds of dog food for boomer (thats the
dog not me) and .........well you know the routine. I take one pair of pants
and underclothes, and a credit card.

The house contains enough to stock a small walmart. Wife has collections of
everything under the sun, over 650 cookie jars at last count, 1000's of
figural planters and only she knows what else in boxes in the cellar all
carefully cataloged for what reason I can not understand(maybe for me to
sell so I can buy more GMC parts)

I thought it only logical that we should extend this same packrat mentality
to the motorhome. You have converted me dave. Now I am changing. Out with
the toilet and shower, can stop at a rest stop, stove is gone to can stop at
McDonalds, beds stay at least temporarily but still checking, refrigerator
gone, scotch is better warm.

Now that I am getting the new Michelins (thanks to Dave), maybe even throw
out the spare tire.

happy new year to all and hope the great GMc god in the sky smiles on you
whenever you are on the road.

The differences between men and women are truly amazing and I cherish my
wife of 44 1/2 years and the way she comes to problems and solutions,
etc. BUT...when we travel she brings 500lbs of genealogy records with
her. If I carry 25 lbs of tools she doesn't think they are essential.

When she occasionally travelled with me on my round-the-world jaunts, I
finally "trained" her to travel with a carry -on bag only. Then I found
out she knew how to stuff 300 lbs into a carry-on. So I decided to make
her carry her own carry-on. That solved that problem in a New York
minute!

I could go on a trip that would last 3 weeks, travel in exteme climate
zones and get by with wearing one suit and packing one suit. Laundry
services are oustanding in Asia so shirts, etc are back in your room in
hours if not the same day.

But having said this I know my wife nor could any women, travel with two
dark blue suits and one pair of black shoes, etc. That is just the ay
they are. Ya gotta love them anyway!

None ofthis has to do with GMCs but it is a little diversion.

Talk at you next year.
