So what did you do to your GMC today?

I finished up my oil change and greased the chassis (not fun, even with a lift). Tomorrow I need to change out a couple pieces of cracked fuel hose, then it'll be ready for the next three thousand miles.

Installed new design spheres in the steering shaft tilt joint like Bruce Hislop posted about, Had fun getting all the bearing balls to stay put during reassembly. steering spheres and goo.webpsteering spheres.webp

Ok guys, my day is not nearly as exciting as drag racing but it's busy none the less. Just bought our coach and it came with two rare upgrades. Huge ant infestations, one in each side. Sevin dust and Terro traps seem to be helping. The great news is an assortment of parts have started trickling in. Sealants for the roof and windows, roof vents and lighting, wiper conversion, door hinge pins and bushings and for a bit of vanity a new banjo type steering wheel, inspired from the 1930's. It's really handsome.

They slipped on ok. Just installed the unit yesterday so I have no experience with durability. At one time there were blue silicone drive axles that were deemed to be indestructible. That is why I ordered the silicone boots.

My sister created a new tire cover for my GMC. I served in the US Navy on two different ships. My second ship was the USS Butte AE-27. She was an ammunition supply ship, and many of my fondest memories of serving in the Navy was aboard this ship. The tire cover displays the ship's crest. We just placed on the rig today. Can't be happier!

Fixed my fuel sender that was always showing full.
Had to cut access holes in the floor, and of course cut a fuel line doing so...

Found the issue to be where the ribbon attaches to the feed through. Broke the jezes clip... couldnt reassemble now.

Final fix was to remove the feedthrough, then stuff a tube through the hole and then run a wire through it. Fill the hole with fuel safe sealant.

Seems to be working. But i wonder how fuel safe that cheap wire is!
But at least now the access holes are there

1400 uneventful miles out and back to the Traverse City MI GMCMI fall conference :)

Smoked a butt while there! This cheap Brinkman(?) smoker was given to me by my sister in law, it was a $5 garage sale purchase. I made a mount for it to travel outside the GMC on the rear bumper, so it packs along easily and keeps the mess outside. I load everything it needs inside the smoker such as the chimney style charcoal starter, wood and charcoal, grates, pan etc.

It doubles as a fire pit when visiting places that don't allow camp fires, we can still have a small 'cooking' fire with the fire pot up at the top so the kids can roast marshmallows.
