Right handed dashboard

Just wasted my best piece of oak plywood. Cut out choice piece, traced
the instrument panel, taped the lines, cut with care, shaped the edge
with sander and router table, cut the notch for the steering column in
the wrong darned side. Any Brits out there?

Tomorrow is another day.

I think it is the spirit of my abandoned TR-6 sitting out back in the
shed that made me do it. I moved the new "hood" and interior leather
pack into the attic today to make room for GMC stuff.

Spooky.

I finally recovered from the dashboard mistake and found an equally good
piece of oak ply. Got some inspiration caused by one of the
complications of GMC disease. I mean of course the need to have as many
guages as is possible.

1) I am moving the radio down to a modular console which will fit
between the seats (did this on my wifes Safari with TV, came out great).

2) In place of the radio, I fit four 2" guages: Gas, Oil Pressure, Water
temp and oil/tranny temp (w/switch)
3) On console dash (made from remains of right handed dash) will be
radio, equalizer and ammeter and dual air guage. Console will be able
to move in front of passenger seat for engine access and to access
leveling controls.

Does this make sense? Should I put the ammeter on the dash?

By the way, I know 6 guages is not in the running but what is the record
for most guages.....for some reason I have to know.

Might I suggest a vacuum gauge.

Already have plans to put the Truecharge monitor up there somewhere. Generator
switch is a good idea. Plan to remove cluster in favor of tach. Don't want to
be eliminated on the basis of doubling up! Any idea where I can get a tach to
match the original Speedo/Odo?

Vacuum guage, an excellent idea. Where? Have to think on this one for a
while. Tire pressure guages (six), bearing temperature monitors (6),
domestic hot water temperature, domestic water pressure guage, fuel flow
meter...Maybe I could eliminate the copilots seat and put in another
console for more guages...HAAAHAAA...They're comming to take me away Ha

don't forget

air/fuel ratio gauge left and right

ping detector
house battery
TBI indicator lamp and switch
air pump on
rear view TV
Propane injector switches / lamps

Gene-

Your website is the reason I am replacing the dash and guages. The
drool shorted out the old one!

I don't know if anyone has bookmarked this site but it has lots of
guages for great prices. Scroll down about three screens past the boat
panels to see the good stuff.

good morning Gary

Don't feel bad about that little mistake. I once cut off the top of an oak
door to make more room for the thicker carpet we had installed. I was lucky
though- my cut was careful enough that was able to glue it back on and start
over. But it did take a couple days for the red mark to disappear from my
forehead.

I did that once with a $500 oak double glazed exterior door, special order,
special size for my best customer back when I was doing contracting work. Cut
the door hole but measured from the top, not the bottom. Worst part is that my
assistant polyurethaned the new door before I stained it. Left the customer
with plywood for a door for 4 weeks. Spent a long night sanding that baby.
Funny, that customer never called me again!

Cut it down further and used it on my back porch for 5 years until I tore it
down.

Welcome to the Club!

There is a guy in Australia who is converting a few GMCs to RHD. Maybe
you could go into business.

You are off to a good start Ron! I like gages-can't have too many. I
nearly bought a Bluebird coach once. The dash looks like a Boeing 747
cockpit!
