Hi all, if I may indulge the collective this evening.
I got all the way to the shop and somehow left my service Manuals at
home😮😔. I sure could use the front and rear ride heights if anyone has
them handy.

Has anyone figured out ride height at the bogies VS the rear slot?
Seems like a better easier way to me

It is figured to the height of the frame from level ground, NOT THE
SUSPENSION OR THE BODY.

Too little change at the bogie box in relation to frame height way out at
the slot. Too much room for error measuring there perhaps.

In our shop we use a stick from the level ramp to the bottom of the frame,
as you cannot get to the rear left as the Onan covers the slot.
I figured that distance to be about: Front 9 7/8"
Rear 8 3/8"

nipples with 225/75 R16 tires. A lot easier than trying to measure to the
slots in the frame. JWID.

I have been participating in GMC seminars since 1980 and No One has come up
with a spec. that varied from the one in the manual.
There are times I need to drive some coaches and tow a toad so I can get
back , so if it gets squarely , I lower the rear and that gets me more
caster and it stabilizes the coach.

On flat level ground, once you have the ride height set to the slots, I can see why you can't measure the rear ride height to the bogie grease
fittings. They are fastened to the frame and are at the rear suspension pivot point so they should not change much if the ground the front sits on is
not level with the back.

Also its easier to find a place to measure where the ground is flat and level between the 2 rear wheels to check rear ride height.

Somebody - Ken H maybe? carries a piece of 4x4 which is cut to two heights and marked "Front" and 'Rear' which I saw at Beabn Station one year.
Measures to the bottom of the frame under the slots. It's quick and effective.

OK here's my thoughts...
I do have a metal rod that is the right height and fits into the rear slot, it also has a mark for the bottom of the frame for the generator side, it works fine.

I really like Jerry's method, Ive been thinking about that way for a while.
The frame slot height is dependent on  the front ride height as the frame rotates around the bogie. So why not just measure height at the bogie?
You can get at it easier, on both sides and front ride height barely affects it.
Isn't what really matters is that the bogies are level from the pivot to the axle? The caster setting is dependent on the rear height AND the front height

I'm thinking a piece of sheet metal with a hole that goes over the bogie greaser. If it fits it sits.
This seems easier and more accurate to me, unless I'm missing something.

This is just my personal opinion, based on common sense.
The ride heights measurement system in the manual are a
convenient way to do it, but not very accurate.
First, the rear ride height should have the bogie pins at the
same height as the centerline of the wheel. If you have any
camber in the rear wheels, that is the only place the toe will
be correct IMHO. f you have any camber, positive or negative,
the wheels are traveling at an angle as they move up or down,
thus changing the toe. the saving grace is that the toe change
is in opposition for wheels on the same side, so we don't
notice anything.
The front ride height should have the half shaft dead level IMHO
so that there is no angularity in the CV joint.
I hope the flames don't scorch my tail feathers over this, as it is
just my personal choice.

On the 76 Eleganza the problem is the front height. it is too high by at least an inch on both sides- more so no the driver side.

The adjustment screws on the pork chop are as LOW as they will go. NO further lowering adjustment available.

How can I get the front lower?

I believe the torsion bars and pork chops came with the coach from the factory.

The dinette and seats as wells as the 2 original overhead cabinets are out of the coach so it may be 200-300 pounds light in front.
I wouldn't think that would make much difference.

I guess I could load a couple of sacks of feed in the front and see if it makes a difference.

Any suggestions?

That still leaves the issue of the front looking a little goofy being as high as it is. Especially since I don't have the wheel well liners installed.

I have been over this ride height thing before, so I won't spend any time
discussing your various measurement alternatives to what the factory manual
says to do. A few years ago at a GMCWS rally in Casa de Fruita, Ca., we put
together a 6 person team of trained GMCers to measure the ride height of
arriving coaches and to weigh all the coaches with portable scales and
record all the data. After the first day of collecting ride height data, we
abandoned that part of the project as we had more than enough data and
instead concentrated on weigh ins. I will say this much about ride height.
There was only one coach measured upon arrival that was correct according
to factory specs. It was my own coach, a 78 Royale with a 403 and all stock
suspension, no extra batteries or toads or carriers on the rear. Two people
aboard without a lot of spare parts. Weighed less than the GVW limit. The
other extreme was Jim K.s late model coach, loaded to the gills with spare
stuff for the vendor booth. His was 3" low in front and low in the back as
well. He was towing a big van completely chock full of stuff as well.
Almost universally when asked how their coaches drove, the answer was
"Just Fine, no problem."
Armand Minnie still has the data from that rally and it is available
for free to any who request it.
Jerry Work has published a body of work on ride height and alignment,
and it is also available on his web site at jerrywork.com. for free. Really
all you need to know about ride height is there.

I have the same problem. Dave lenzi once tried to help me lower the front, but ran out of adjustment short of re-indexing the pork chops(not
interested in that project). I make sure my rear rides a little lower and as jim hupy said. "Drives fine for me". My annoyance is leveling at
campsites when the front is uphill from the rear. Have to use blocks to get the rear up high enough in some cases, and one extream case had to jack
up my rear hitch when i could not drive up on the blocks due to front traction issue. I have now learned to spin/dig tires down an inch or two in
front.
