Refrigerator question

I'm pondering my options. reason for pondering is that now my fridge cools
better on 110 then propane and it used to me the other way around.

I'll probably try the upside down trick just for the h... of it, but am
thinking ahead to may having to replace it.

I'd prefer to go 12V & 110 if I can be convinced that 12volt operation in a
2-way is indeed feasable.
Patrick: you installed one a while back? any feedback from the battlegrounds
yet?

I think a 5amp draw was mentioned... not that I can afford another 5amps,
but.... :-)

Of course if it cools like on 12Volt of the 3-way then I'm back to propane.

That's same with my current 3-way.
I'm hoping that the 2-way is better as apparently it uses a different scheme
of things.

Hoping that someone with a newer 2-way will jump in and confirm or dispell
the rumor :-)

Well, since it's in dad's coach, it's getting some mileage(unlike
mine). It's a Norcold DE461 that uses a 12V compressor. Only 5A
on 12V vs. 8A for the original fridge. Dad's pleased so far. I'll
probably be chatting with him tonite and I'll ask for an update. I'm
planning to put one in my coach - when I get that far...

Yeah... me too.
It sounded good at the time :-)

I'd like to get rid if the propane if I can.... as in if a 2-way cools good
on 12Volts, as in under way.

Heinz,

Chatted with dad last nite. Said the new fridge works great. His only
gripe is that the shelves aren't adjustable and he can't get a quart of
home-made pickles in it! Cools much better than the original fridge
on 12V. Claims it will make ice in about 3 hours where the original
took overnight. It's been a nasty July in the South, so it's seen
plenty of heat.

Remember, the DE461 uses a 12V compressor and is Freon(or whatever
envirofriendly refrigerant they used) based, not ammonia. It'll cool as
well as the propane types and no plumbing gas. That's why I recommended
it to dad when his went south and I'll put one in mine as soon as I get
to the galley.

'Scuse me - common geek malady - speaking in shorthand. It's a Norcold
DE461, can be seen at www.norcold.com - contact info is there too. Call
their tech folks and they'll tell ya' all about it.

One thing - don't let a salesman tell you that the DE561 is the current
model. For some reason Norcold went backwards with their numbering.
The DE561 was replaced by the DE461, which has two cooling fans and a
more efficient compressor than the DE561.

Didn't shop around as dad was in a hurry - ready to leave on a trip, but
the fridge quit. An RV shop that I do some web work for got me one at
cost - I don't know what the usual price would be, but I can check if
you want.

IIRC, with NC sales tax and picking it up at his shop, a little more
than US$1100. He can have them drop-shipped, but again, I'd have to
check on the price.

AFAIK, just one compressor - two fans, one on the compressor and another
on the power supply.
