Do you know of anyone making the rear panel fold down.
I want to put a small atv in the back like a cargo trailer.
[Similar to the rear folding down in the movie STRIPES!?!]

Thanks

Jim Bounds had or started work on a toy hauler GMC modification. Check with him.

There was a bunch of quadracers here in Oregon, called QuadCo. They had a
GMC with a motorized rear hatch, and a power ramp. I saw it at a hydraulic
repair shop, stopped by and looked it over. Innovative setup, high$$$$.
That hydraulic repair business is long gone, so probably it would be hard
for me to track their customers. Might give it a go when I get back on my
feet.

There's a guy here in the Midwest that has that mod on his GMC. He brings a Mini Cooper, and other cars in it at times to the GMCMI events.. He did a nice job on it. Bob Dunahugh

Thanks for the info.
Hoping to find something non hydraulic.
[similar to what is on my regular enclosed trailer with a spring and cables]

Thanks for the info.
Get well and have a merry Christmas.

Tom Pryor just installed a spare tire door/tray in the back of his GMC.
It's not made/reinforced for the weight you're proposing, but his photos
may be of help in designing your own.

As the rear hatch is made of SMC, you'd have to incorporate some sort of metal ramps to support any significant weight. However, the frame under the
rear hatch should be strong enough to support this easily.

Hi Ken,

Randy Johnson, who often with his old father attends GMCWS meetings showed us his nice constructed rear hatch.
He has his Mini stored inside his GMC.

Yep, I've known Randy, his Dad, and their GMC for maybe 15 years. When I
first got the GMC and met Jim Bounds in '98, he had a very similar project
under way for another customer. I'm not sure that one (planned for hauling
an Austin-Healey 100) was ever completed, but Jim's done several other
similar ones. But, I don't know of one with a drop-down luggage/vehicle
carrier.

Back in the late 80s, a buddy and I went to the Hershey Old Car meet. In
the
GMC, of course. I had to look at all the GMCs I found. found a used car
salesman
from, I believe, Virginia with a GMC that had been an airport bus. Still
had the
bi-fold door conversion. Anyway, he had a rear panel that was hinged at
the
bottom and swung down to make a ramp. He carried a late 30s Austin roadster
in the back. Seems like it used a garage door spring to pull the ramp up.
Don't remember much else.
