Found my GMC, now looking for insurance......
So far Progressive looks best with the included recovery plan but do any members have good/bad experiences with them?

Progressive insures RV's for USAA. Price thru USAA is lower than Progressive can quote you directly. Sad that USAA quit covering RV's, except for
those whom have had continuous coverage. Any lapse, and they send you to Progressive. This change in underwriting happened about 4 years ago.
Bummer.

Pete,

I have Progressive. It had the best deal when I bought the coach. I haven't had to make a claim on the coach but I later bundled my auto too. Thanks
to my teen driver I've had to deal with a couple incidents and their claims department has been very good to deal with.

Are you talking about an agreed value policy?

Progressive offered the best value for me in Michigan.

Excluding our 20-year old as a driver cut the insurance cost in half. From $1200 to $600 with the coach valued at $13,000.

For Michigan, this is very inexpensive. We have the highest rates in the country - the average for full coverage of a new car is about $2800.

I could not do it online.

And, until I called it a "1974 GMC model 260" they could not find it. The first time I called they said they couldn't insure it.

The second time I just asked to transfer the policy from the Winnebago to the new GMC 260.

I told them the value of $13,000. They told me just to call back as I put more money into it, and they would raise the insurance coverage.

Just be prepared, you will have to justify the value of any loss. So, I would not intentionally over insure mine.

If you get an agreed value policy which needs an appraisal at the time you buy the insurance, you have an agreed contractual amount that the insurance company has to pay you.

You don't have to justify anything at the time of loss.

My GMC has an agreed value policy for $48,600 as appraised by Jim Kanomata last February. If we have a total loss that is what National Interstate will pay me.

That's the plan in the slightly longer run.

Oh, yes!

For a total loss, with appraisal, I understand.

In my case, with Progressive, they asked me the value, without an appraisal.

Then you have what they call a stated value or an agreed value policy.

You pay your premium on that value but in the case of a total loss their adjuster might offer you a lot less and thus begins the arguments.

No, mine was "actual value". But I was having trouble finding other companies that would write one for the GMC (I tried Hartford and one or two
others at the time, I can't remember)

Actual value is not the same as agreed value.
In the insurance industry Actual Cash Value (ACV) is a method of valuing insured property. Your payout is computed by subtracting depreciation from the amount of your policy.

Are you looking for an agreed value policy? Several of us have found insurers in various states that will write agreed value policies.
The places where you buy your auto insurance usually will not write them.

Brien,
Hartford is the worst when it comes to evaluating value of our coach.
I tried to help a person and they refused to budge from a book they refer
to.

I can look at the coaches for those that want an independent appraisal at
the Elkhart Convention.
