Playing with Paint

I'm sick of them too, hence only a few, and this isn't the final rendering. It'll get tweaked a bit. It just looked right.

SHE liked it, so that is a HUGE factor. I like it too...

No body molding. I think they look nice with the aluminum strip smoothed and painted.Not sure where I saw it, but I liked it.

GM trucks have had too much rubber crap on them anyway.

It doesn't always snow the first of December. Just a 50% chance.

but the coach looked too plain without something to break up all the white space. The roof will be all white. The silver will stop somewhere past the top after the gutter.

I probably have a couple hundred drawings of different paint schemes of the GMC. All on MicroSloth Paint.

If I put it in a picture program and have it run slide show it becomes very interesting.

I also will not let the roof be any other color than white, the sun still warms things up but the white reflects a lot of the heat.

Menards, by me, sells a tint, almost colorless for the windows that will block 70% of the heat from the windows. after reading Jim Bounds procedure to put tint up on windows, I am trying to get brave enough to try it. It seems to be quite the job by the way JimB explains it.

I like your drawing very much, the lines are wavy to reflect the roundness of the GMC and the stripes are not overstated. You did a good job for a couple dozen drawings.

I suggest if you like it to not dwell on it or you will change your mind and try to do better. That has been my problem as I am not an artist and I always feel I did not draw well enough for the GMC.

I'd like to see your paint renderings. I am pretty set on my layout, I may tweak some of the ribbons so they don't cut across the refer door, for example, so it is easy to replace.

I think a lot of folks out there have done sketches and such, would be cool to see them all. Most of us are not artists, and I think nobody would be embarrassed.

Ya' never know, someone's idea may make it onto someone else's coach.

I'm gonna scan some that I did, plus some my Son did, which are really cool, (He did the AZ flag) but I think It would be too loud.

I am thinking of them doing our coach. Any idea of how long they need the
coach for the paint job.
Being that we have a 69 Avanti II would like to visit the Studebaker Museum
and the old factory.
So could make a holiday out of it.

Be careful. We went to Topeka via the Auburn-Cord-Duesenberg museum in
Auburn, IN. I still swear that SHE chose the bright yellow now on "Tweety
Bird" because SHE so liked the yellow Stutz Bearcat there.

Larry Bontranger at Topeka Graphics does not have a web site. If you
want an accurant time frame then call him at 260-593.2009 and ask! He
will probably ask for about 4 weeks at a minimun. Your overall cost
will depend on how much prep work is required and how many colors and
complexity of design. His shop does excellent work.

All this talk about Topeka Graphics is great.

Here's a presentation assembled for Larry Bontrager and used at the GMC
Eastern States fall rally a year ago. It has photos of their work and
illustrations of several variations.

Based on what I understand, allow about four weeks to get the coach painted.
If you want to allow three months, that's OK, too because it may not get
done until just before the day you want it. I think you'd be hard pressed to
find anyone that knows more about painting the TZE and doing as fine a job
as Larry and family.

The presentation lists the steps they take and options you have.

Chris,

Think long and hard about the treatment of the horizontal joint between the aluminum and fiberglass. Your scheme is too nice to be screwed up by cracks at the joint.

I Plan to leave the aluminum strip. Just round it down at the edges to smooth it. That will eliminate any problems.

WOW!

The curve at the front quarter panel, from the grill to the end of the front cap is perfect. So is the curve that flows over the rear wheels.

Ooooh - that is an impressive looking design. It's what the Gadabout should have been, but they just didn't curve the paint enough.

That is really good looking! Print it on vinyl and sell it at rallies ;~)

Your posts of the paint ideas you and Bryon came up with is quite inspiring, I did a quick Adobe photoshop and replaced base color to something close to Palm Beach's OEM color and then recolored your treatments with complementary colors. The link below shows the two quickee samples I did at lunch today, I'm thinking about knocking out some vinyl reproductions of the ribbons. One of my businesses does vinyl signs and such and I should be able to create the ribbons in a couple hours. If that looks good I can then have the front and lower rear masks done in paint or make vinyl wraps. It will be interesting to see if just painting the beltline strip in the base color or contrasting complementary color works, the second pic doesn't have the masks and has the colored beltline. I think the black rubber with the fake chrome on the second series strip looks rather tacky in just a few years.
