That stupid oil filter base / adapter is leaking.
I went to O Riles and all they show is one for the 350 I think Napa doesn't show one at all.
I assume Jim K has one. Are they available at parts stores locally??

but the main question is how to get the damn thing to not leak. I'm at my wits end

Keith,

I believe that an o ring from an oil filter will work in the adapter.

You mean between adaptor and engine? Replace gasket. Rob Mueller posted the real gasket but many use oil filter take off gasket

Keith,

Do you have the right gasket? Evidently the 403 and the 455 are different. When I did my engine, I found that the gasket in the overhaul kit was for
the 403. I believe Jim K has the right one, I don't know where else to get it.

Thw O ring gasket is at the topmof the filter adapter. Thw gasket at the
engine is a tough one to find , We had a engine bulder supply us with some.

Seems silly to bug Jim for a little gasket, oh well I should talk to him about other things anyway.

And Yes it's the adapter to block gasket, not the o ring between the cooler adapter, which BTW is not an old filter gasket, there is a part, Dorman Seal P/N 917-036

From left to right is an Oil Filter Seal, a Dorman Seal P/N 917-036 (available from O'Reilly's), and a Parker Hannifin O-ring. I believe that the Parker Hannifin O-ring (PH 2-230) is the best part for the job. Seal groove dimensions are: 2.803 OD X 2.437 ID X .120 Depth.

My interchange just has old GM numbers or Use Oil Filter Gasket but it’s 2017. Haven’t gotten hard copies since.

I get hard copies. Check with Kim. Your dues may not be up to date.

I bought several of the Parker Hannifin O-ring (PH 2-230), and tried them out. Actually, a filter gasket from a discarded oil filter (for the Olds
455) when doing an oil change, just seems to work better. Just what I've noticed.

I have no problem answing the phone for all kind of help N/C.
If younthink I'm too busy to talk or return phone call, guess again.
We have Nick and now Dan to assist along with Grace.
How do you think we became the major supplier of parts and kit.

The oil filter o ring is too big and doesnt have room to compress when properly assembled.
Use the dorman part and torque to 55 ft lbs

I think I somehow got switched to digital only as nothing by mail. I sent her an email months ago.

I agree with Larry. I have had the same experience. Re-torque it on the first and maybe second oil change.

On the oil filter adapter to block gasket. A few years ago I as able to get one in stock at a local Auto Value / Bumper to Bumper auto parts store.

When I first started this GMC thing the Oil filter o ring was the only thing we had and was being recommended by everyone in the know. I had some
leak issues. Got to talking with the great Bob Drews about the o ring and how it squashes out and leaks. He said…”Larry, think about that o ring
and what it was designed for on the oil filter. It is a spin on and slides on contact for half a turn. You put a little oil on it so it slides to
tighten. Your hands don’t have near the torque that a wrench has when tightening the filter adapter. And the oil filter adapter just tightens
straight down with no twist and no oil on the o ring. So when you use the oil filter o ring, don’t oil it down. Put it in and tighten down dry.”
So that is what I’ve been doing ever since. Never a leak. JWID

But the oil filter O ring is not even an O ring. It has a square cross section.

I certainly do miss Bob Drewes. So knowledgeable and plain spoken. Used common sense to great advantage. Never boasted or built himself up.
A true mentor for many of us.
Only thing was his opinion on ethanol in fuel mandate and a certain shade of green. haha But that was good natured.

May he rest in eternal peace.
