Finally, success..
Moved my coach so I would have gas to it and it started right up on the
coach batteries.
(Thanks to Duane Simmons who overhauled the board and Tim Dawson who
adjusted the relays..)

Now What?
Guess I'll have to go find another difugulty to fix. Will take a mini-trip
and see what pops up.

AFAIK clean the carb and adjust the choke. Worked for me, many moons ago.

sounds as if the governor is not adjusted right. There is a
procedure in the GMC maintenance manual telling how to solve this
problem. Also be sure to lubricate the linkage before you do the
adjustments.

I had this problem and the electronic ignition fixed the problem. When I
removed the points they had quite a large point and pit in the middle

I'm sure you already have the points, carburetor and trouble shooting
advice. I've also had it cycle like that when low on oil. The oil pressure
fluctuates and the sensor shuts it down only to have the pressure come back
and allow it to recover. It'll do that for quite a while before stopping
entirely. Good luck.

What would cause the gen to start cycling? (Speeding up and slowing down)
After I finally got it where it would start, it starts doing this after a
while.

I had the same problem last Fall. I fixed it this Spring by replacing the
ball joint in the linkage. Apparently over the years the joint had developed
a spot where it was binding. No amount of lubrication would fix it. There
was no way to detect that it was binding without actually removing the joint
and playing with it. It seemed normal when on the engine. The bad ball joint
helped contribute to the generator over speeding one day to the point where
it blew out my microwave due to the high voltage. It also smoked a surge
protector that my TV was plugged into. After replacing the ball joint, it
runs just fine and no over speeding.

I only found the cause of my problem after I had replaced everything that I
could think of that would cause the Onan to surge. I replaced the governor
spring, the ball joint, spark plugs, points & condenser and spark plug
wires. I was going to order an electronic ignition package, but I already
had the new points and plugs. I found the problem with the ball joint after
I had it out and spent a few minutes inspecting it.

So my advice is to make very sure that your ball joint is in good condition.

I finally removed and cleaned my carb today, I think I have figured out my
probs..
When I took the gas line loose from the pump, no gas seeping out...1st flag.
after taking the bowl loose, no fuel in bowl..2nd flag..
cleaned inside of bowl, put a new gasket on, since the top 1/3 was 'pulled'
down leaving a small gap at top of manifold..

Also had a 'whoops' and a 'whew' when cleaning out the screen in the bowl.

Had a can of carb cleaner and a can of gold paint sitting side by side..
went to spay some carb cleaner on screen and though it funny that the fluid
was gold colored...(Whoops)
remembered reading on carb cleaner can that it will remove paint,
so....(Whew)
Otherwise that fixed my 'cycling problem.
Ran it for awhile with/without load and ran fine..
Pushed it in and ran it again..whoops, died after awhile..
checked back gas line and noticed it would 'fold' up when I pushed it in..so
started it outside, running ok. than pushed it..after a while it started to
cycle and tried to die.
I immediately pulled it back out and it recovered fine..
Now I need to shorten rear gas line so it wont fold up..

Otherwise. looks ok now..

Nice going, New gas line will also help because now it has a permanent
crimp. The Primer circuit will also help so that you do not have to crank
so long.

I would / did, not think of a crimped gas line.
