John,
Thanks for the compliments on the page and our GMC.
As far as the door handle goes, it is a stock door handle which I believe
is the same as the ones used in all later GMCs. Apparently GM originally
designed the GMC for a different door handle and had already produced doors
for it. They apparently found that the door handle was not acceptable and
redesigned it to the current handle. Unfortunately, the doors had holes in
them already for the original design, so they used the polished stainless
steel plate shown in the picture to cover all the holes. The plate has a
little GMC emblem on it which is actually the only GMC emblem on our
motorhome now. The emblem had GMC orange behind the silver letters before,
but we changed it to black when we did the paint job. The Later GMCs got
doors that had not been cut for the original handle, so the plate was no
longer necessary.
If you still want a picture of it, let me know and I'll see if I can come
up with something. Right now, though, all I have is a blow-up from that
picture which gives a good idea of what it is, but doesn't look real good.
I can email you that (about 5k) if you want, just let me know.
