From Leto's Law YT channel, seems like Minnesota is tightening its restrictions on what you can do with a vehicle with historic plates. For instance you can only drive on weekends etc.

So those with classic or historic plates from Mn may want to check into this.

I dont think this will go anywhere in the Mn legislature…. At least this year.

But it is bringing unwanted attention to a registration system that should be left alone. With all the other problems, this is a dumb one to bring up.

You HAVE to declare a daily driver when you apply for your collector plates. And in MN the season is short, so you cant get much driving in anyway.

Yes there are people abusing the system. But I am pretty sure what those people lack paying in yearly renewals, they make up for it in sales tax, and gas tax and…

I don't know if "Historic" vehicle plates are a thing here anymore in Ontario Canada since non-commercial vehicles no longer have a yearly renewal fee.

You can get Year of Manufacture "YOM" plates, but you must find an existing set of plates from the year the vehicle was made and after 1973 the plates no longer had the year on them.

There are still huge holes in the definition of when you can drive a car with classic plates.
The old law said "not for general driving"
The new lay would say "car shows, exhibitions, club events and the like.c
Plus all day all weekend.
Whats an exhibition? Whats and the like?

I think as long as youre not driving it to work every day youll be fine

State patrol. Sheriff and police have more important things to worry about then if your using a collector plated car
To get to work. Or have to worry about new verbage to interpret and case law.

The old law is vague for a reason.

Now if new tabs for a non collector car did not just jump 22%. Maybe less people would not be looking to be abusing the collector plates.

And seriously, just say, im going to a car show if they ask where just say i dont know, my buddy just told me to meet him at his place

The only drive I took last year in my 56 chevy was to take the family for ice cream. Apparently I would have violated their proposed law?

well the current law says "operated solely as a collector's item and not for general transportation purposes",
The proposal defines accepted use as:
"Operation as a collector's item includes:
(1) transportation for a collector vehicle club activity, exhibition, tour, parade, or similar
use"

and adds
"(2) operation on Saturday and Sunday from sunrise to sunset."

So the question is, what does "exhibition" mean?

The Definition of exhibition is "a public display of works of art or items of interest," so that seems pretty dang broad!

Cool, I just have to say "I'm an exhibitionist!" if pulled over.
