Dang. I like that way of thinking. Use the door from above on the stove
space below. Get a new light/fan unit and build a better housing for the
oven than just filling existing space.

Now I have a another project. http://www.rvandvansurplus.com has some range
hoods.

Thank.

Anyone on here have a round tuit?

Byron,
If you look at some of the other pictures of the vent you can see that
I only used the internal part of the hood and did not use the full
metal cabinet as it use up too much space. I also added some extra
lighting to brighten up the counter top.

JR,

Thanks for the input! While I like what you did with your microwave when
I showed it to Helen she asked "won't that block the window?" Also the range
hood we have wouldn't work. She's adamant that she wants the four burners
and that bending over to read the display is fine with her!

We graduated from a Harley to the GMC and have gone from a saddle bag and a
half a sissy bar bag each to LOTS of storage space!

John Sharpe removed both the overhead cabinets in the bedroom from the parts
coach and I intend to use them over the dinette in both Double Trouble and
The Blue Streak. I'll put a power point inside so we can plug in the
computer, cell phones, etc to charge them.

I'm also considering removing the love seat, extending the counter top, and
building in some more cabinets. I haven't broached that subject with Helen
yet.

Rob,
Wife did not like having to get down on hands and knees to work with
oven under the stove. We put our above the counter with a built in
vent fan assy. Will be doing the same layout in the Avion with the
cooktop that you got for us. Took the cabinet door from the top and
used it to create new storage under the cooktop. A lot of people that
we talk to at rallies said that they would have put their microwave up
if they did it again. A lot of woman say they like the 4 burner
cooktop but when it comes down to really using the cooktop we have
found that the 2 burner is more than sufficient for preparing a meal.
You just don't use 4 burners at one time. What you really need is
storage space.

It would be interesting to ask Helen if she has ever used all 4
burners on her home stove
I asked my wife and she cannot recall when or if she ever did. She
doubts it.

Perhaps its just that she could if she ever wanted to.

Emery,

You tryin' to get me in trouble! ;-)

Actually we had that discussion and the answer was; "I want to have
someplace to put the pots off the flame when I cook!"

The response to this is "yes, Dear." ;-)

Go back and look at the pictures again. The nice thing about the new
style cook tops is that they have a grill (actually 2) all the way
across the top so that it is easy to slide a pan to the side off the
flame. You should have her look at someone elses cook top before
deciding. I think that the pictures that I have on my gmcmhphotos.com
site show that well.

Regardless of what SHE might have wanted, I wasn't about to kneel to check
the timer or my heating coffee, so here's where I put our Sharpe convection
microwave 11 years ago. It's admittedly sort of an odd ball location, which
wouldn't work for a lot of floorplans, or people, but my feet don't mind at
all after I go to sleep:

G'day,

I've completed my research and figger'd I'd share what I found.

http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/showphoto.php?photo=33536

I did get several other suggestions but they did not have a grill function
(ESSENTIAL) or I couldn’t find any data on them.

I haven't made a decision yet as I want to see them up close and personal.

Subject: [GMCnet] Microwave Convection Grill Ovens

G’day,

Helen would like to have a Microwave Convection Grill Oven (MCGO) in our
GMC’s. She likes the 4 burner cooktop in the Avions so I intend to cut the
oven off and fit the MCGO under it. I already found one for The Blue Streak
here in Australia.

Below I have listed links for reasonably priced units in the USA.

I would appreciate it if have any of these units to let me know what you
think about it; where you bought it, and the cost.

All the above units are $250 or less; if you have one that did not exceed
that price that you are happy with please let me know the maker, model,
where you bought it, and the cost.

Rob, Bontrager's RV Surplus had brand new Half-Time Convection Microwaves for $125. Price included the metal surround and additional blower to vent the back of the unit, and keep the heat down inside the cabinet that it was installed in. I bought one and I think that it is very nice, and the price was very right. The ones that I looked at were all brand new and never installed.
