>1. For those who have replaced their rear dinette with a regulat mattress,
>does a standard full size mattress fit?
The rear bed on my 76 Palm Beach was a full. Standard mattress fits fine.
Our first one was a medium density foam.
I want to leave the "headboard"
>cabinet as that is the place I leave my teeth glass and cigar butt. Or does
>it take a "custom" size mattress? How do you get it in there, roll it up
>tight?
It depends on your mattress. I just folded the foam mattress in half and
pushed it to the back. No problems. The new custom mattress was a different
story. I had Montery Mattress Company make a good mattress for me. The
construction includes side steel for the internal frame/springs etc. IN
order to fit, I had them cut the side steel in the middle so mattress will
fold in half.
To get the mattress in the back. I fold it in half with a helper, and put a
strap around the mattress to keep it folder while I slide it to the back.
Once the mattress is i th back, I loosen the strap and the matress unfolds.
Removal of teh mattress is a bit trickier since it has quite a bit of
spring tension when folded. Here's how I do it: slide the strap under the
mattress the long way. Get in the back at the head of the mattress with my
feet under the mattress. Fold teh mattress in half. HAve my helper secure
the strap while I hold the mattress in place. Stand the mattress on its
edge and slide it back out the hallway. This is a bit of work since the
mattress springs are pretty strong.

PS Irene is my helper in this procedure - and she's pretty strong. I
wouldn't recommend the procedure for the timid or physically challenged.
Consider a foam mattress instead if either applies to your situation.
