When I replaced my lower balljoints I welded a small plate to the top of
the control arm where the balljoint is bolted to. I then bolted the new
balljoint on using the nut and two 5/16 bolts. When the joint was tight
on the control arm I removed one 5/16 bolt and tapped out the hole with
a 3/8 tap and installed a 3/8 bolt using red loctite. I also used a nut
which I tack welded to the bolt. I then did this to the other bolt. No
loose balljoint, no cracked control arm, no worry.
