HI u all ! ok want more light for nite driving ! what do you think about possible conversion's ?? Thanks as always Larry 78/455 xpb

The life (light output wise) of a typical 6014 (7") headlight is only about 200 hours. (That is about 6 months for a typical driver.)
If you want more light without a lot of work or expense, locate a pair of H6014 or H6024 bulbs to put in there. These are standard headlight envelopes, but contain a QI lamp inside. Because the lamp is on legs, the terminals don't get as hot as they will with an H4 bulb.

I have had both Hella and Cibia headlights. All of these were European code with halogen (quartz iodide) bulbs. I know because I started to try to fit a pair that I had into the Chaumière that the headlight buckets have to be modified.

If you don't like the H601X bulb idea, then look at the new LEDs available. Several owners have these now. You could start be reading all the tests and comparisons published on the web and then just hold your nose and jump. These are all made to drop-in replacement for Jeeps and won't need the upgraded connectors that H4 bulbs often need.

Hope this helps.

Rod,
There is no way to answer your question without a light assembly in one hand and the headlight bucket in the other. If you notice, they discuss the heat sink at the back of the assembly, but give no meaning full dimensions. When you find out, b e sure to let others know.

I just installed a set of Bosch H4 headlights, I still might need to aim them properly, but so much better than sealed beam.
Anyhow, I have a question about headlight surround trim, has anyone refinished/painted them? Ours are in decent shape, but could use freshening up.

We spray painted black first then silver to make the headlight trim look better.headtrim2s.webp

To all those looking at headlights. I have had metal reflector European code headlights for many year. These were not all the same headlights. Most were 7", and all that lasted long enough (most) failed due to corrosion of the metal reflector.

Did I like them?
Oh yes, even with 55Watt QI bulbs, they were all bags better than most all the DOT headlights. Beware that in states that have a real safety inspection (many on the east coast) these headlight will not pass and may get you a citation. The best ever to my liking were the Cibie Z-Beams. As good as they were, they car still out lasted them in the Michigan salt. I do not believe these are still available.

This is the best review of LED headlights I've seen:

I bought these, most definitely better than the OEM. For $100, I am sure not as good as some LED lights that are $5-600 but wasn't going to spend that much.

I have those, when HELLA was still making them in Germany and Hungry work great throw a nice beam. See if you can get the ones with DOT stamped on them the others are European and throw the beam to the left.
That's the same as what I mentioned above, just mine are Bosch. Euro are ok for beam pattern, UK isn't. DOT is of course ok in NA. Sometimes you can/should install a connector extension with higher heat rating.

When I upgraded the headlights on our '78 Royale I viewed the YouTube clip on the testing of LED headlights and ended up with a set from Opt-7 out of CA. These not only greatly improved the brightness and range of our old std. sealed beams but also included a small set of Daytime driving lights that our coach never had previously. As they are 100% LEDs they do not pull nearly as much power to provide the better illumination and I found them very easy to install and wire. I think the total bill was ~$180 for the kit. Well worth the outlay. They are most commonly marketed to Jeep owners due to the 7" round format.
