I would like to know if any one has installed the Knock Sensor package
from any vendor for the 455. and has it performed to your expectations?
I might be in the market for one of these, which one do any of you use?

Thanks Gary 76 Glen. Duvall WA.

Gary,

My coach has the Caspro Engine Knock Eliminator.
Picked it up in Albuquerque and drove it to Colorado, all on regular gas, no
pinging - and I have "ears like an eagle" for all mechanical noises.

Gary,
I just installed one from Caspro last night. Moved the timing forward half
an inch on the distributor (no timing light). Road tested it once. It
works. I still have some tweaking but it looks like it will allow me to
comfortably run regular gas anywhere. I'd like to hear from anyone that has
run it for several years.

Bob,
Wow! 1/2" is a lot of advance. I been
waiting on doing mine (till we get a
cold rainy day so I can't ride the H-D).
Also I haven't been able to find my
timing light! Have (had?) a real nice
Sears one but I dunno if I loaned it to
someone and they didn't return it or it
just finally decided to up and walk on
me.
Out of shear curiosity I thought I
would check my timing first to see where
Jim had it set. Then I'll advance it to
about 12-14 degrees with the EKE it
should do it all for me (as I assume
you must have decided as well). Thought
I'd use a center punch or chisle and
peen a light mark right at about 10
degrees advance on the distributor and
base just incase I want a reference to
go back to on the road should the EKE
ever go south (been my luck as of late,
ya know... 8-).
I am adding my EKE module under my
drivers seat. I'll also add those male
and female quick connectors as Emery
mentioned on the cut wires to plug in or
bypass the EKE and go back to stock if
need be. Great idea, Emery!
Sure would be interested in the
optimum settings used on the module
(those of you that have the Caspro EKE
installed). Might give me a good ball
park to start with (or they maybe all
over the board too).

Nate,
1/2" was too much, that is why I mentioned tweaking it, however, you could
sure tell the system was being retarded after 4-5 heavy pings. I took
Emery's advice as well for the quick disconnect. It's only for the brown
line on the distributor since its the only one that needs cutting and
connecting to the module. The red wire only ties into the hot 12v line
going to the distributor. The other wires are grounds or connection to the
sensor. It's actually easier to do than describe. 60 years ago my father
told me you can't trust those marks and lights for timing. Do it by
listening to the engine, its more accurate. According to the included
instructions they now call that tweaking. BTW, I had to use the diode since
I must not have the GM OEM type ignition module. It works fine.

Best guess is that Emery put my distributor at 14 degrees, then when you
do that, go find a hill, a steep hill, one that would cause it to
knock. Then adjuct the screw on the eke to where it gets one ping then
stops. On the eke, be careful, as the whole distance of travel is only
about 180 degrees, so a little (1/16 turn) goes a long way. thats how
we did it with emery's help.

Emery,

Good point! I'll check base timing next time I have the GMC at the shop and
then adjust the EKE. Thanks!
