Lost spark. Has Howell EFI with EBL Change distributor, coil, and cap. Has 12.8 volts to dist. Still no spark. Found a wire from the EBL to the starter. That grounded to the exhaust manifold. Did that wire grounding. Kill the EBL? Anyone around Chamberland? Would my 403 ECM get him home? His cell 319-929-3583. Bob Dunahugh

Update…
I’m off the interstate. I got a Tow to Chamberlan SD.
I still have no spark.
Have 12v to coil. I replaced coil and dist cap, then replaced distributor. Still no spark.
I have Howell EFI with EBL
Anybody have any other suggestions?
Thanks,

Ken

does the fuel pump come on when the key is turned? It should come on for a second.
The wire to the starter tells the ECU the engine is cranking, hard to believe it would kill the ecu

BUT, if that wire is not connected to the starter I doubt the ECU would start the engine since it wouldn't know you are trying to start it.
That said you should still get spark, since the spark isn't controlled by the ECU, just the timing of the spark. Kinda points to the module or the pickup coil
maybe unplug the knock module.

Definitely call jimk in the morning

do you have ability to run the "whats up display"??

Jim K probably has it right, and is a very good source of information and diagnostics on the EBL systems. There is a single wire just off the
start of the ECU harness, that you disconnect to set "base timing" it basically disables the ECU's control of the spark. you could try that too.
EBL should pop some codes.

but usually the diagonostic tree for no spark, is check and verify 12v at distributor. then it usually is the module, then the coil. and for the
price, a cap/rotor is easy to put in.

if still no spark, then it could be deeper into the distributor like a pickup coil.

Chamberlain is a tough spot... part stores there, but think pretty far from help.

Got things worked out. Ken's back on the road. He'll get back as to what went wrong. Not related to the EFI. As thought. Bob Dunahugh
