Alright and i hear you.
So the last set of used "modern style" windows for the whole coach i saw for sale they were asking 6K. Now i like the look of the new windows but at 6
plus thousand i really like my originals.
So what are the solutions then: [in my mind anyways]
A- you keep looking patiently and find them one at a time etc with the understanding that it wont happen soon and don't care about the cost
B- as you stated....figure out a new way to get air into the coach to which i have seen a couple solution....not my preferred method of doing
things...as a mechanic and fabricator i'll never cut holes in a firewall to bring air into a passenger compartment.[think about the "fire" part]
C- have someone fabricate something that you envision
So on point C:
How about having someone make you a set of electric windows that go up/down like a modern car? In todays age of skilled custom fabricators its not a
stretch really. If you put it into perspective it's really just two side channels, a top channel and a bottom. [which we need anyways for
strength/support for the windshield]....so think car door minus the hinges as an example. The glass could maybe be be sourced and cut from perhaps a
modern highway coach flush mount side window or a transport truck with the correct curvature. I believe their is enough space in the lower window area
for the guts of the window regulator.
Would it be worth it? What would you get out of it? Well that's for you to decide but i'm going to fathom, unless you do it yourself, you'd be into it
for well over 1500.00 and it probably will net you exactly what happens with a modern car...lots of wind noise when its open but little air flow but
i'm not an aerodynamics engineer.
So this puts us back to "point C"..... how about pulling it from the front roof section just were the clearance lights are.....think roof scoop used
on Class One GTP cars and rally cars. It can be blended in nicely, look modern, doesn't have to be big etc...heck if you dont mind loosing a little
bit of the space above the sun visors you could even make it raise and lower into the roof and you could even use the cut roof piece as the scoop.
[think 1930's pickup truck with the cowl vent you would pop up].
Guess my point is.... their are no "off the shelf" "cheap" "easy" solutions to get more outside air into the cockpit area or have that "arm out the
window" driving thing that use to be popular before modern car design has come about....in my opinion, if thats what you want, you'll be fabricating
it.
