After the Casa de Fruta visit, my wife and I finally decided how to tackle
the rest of the coach retrofit. Now two problems:
1. I just got a phone call from a client (the same one that kept me from
camping at Casa de Fruta) and I'll be sort of off-list starting Thursday
through about the 17th of May. So, don't expect a lot of responses from me
until then!
2. I can't find the recommendations that folks had for a pentrating
oil/rust buster to use on the inside of the coach for those corroded screws
(I have a ton of them to replace). So, any suggestions would be gratefully
received.
Now for the insanity - we bought a second GMC last month. Well, I should
say that we bought a half of a 77 Royale. The other half that we bought
this month was an engine, transmission, final drive, and a bunch of misc
parts. The previous coach owner had planned to rebuild the drive train and
gave up - selling the cores. So, a coach sat all by its lonesome. The
mechanics who had a lien on it were considering parting it out, but gave me
a reasonably good deal on the shell. I'm looking for anybody's experience
with the rear dry bath that Coachmen put into some of these units. What to
look out for, what to inspect/rebuild that's different from the GMC wet bath?
On another front, I now have owners manuals and a few technical documents
for the Thermasan unit that was an option on the coach. Thetford bought
Thermasan and closed the operation around 1980 when RVs weren't selling too
well. Unfortunately all of the Thermasan experts have retired. I have a
complete unit - minus the injector assembly that goes into the exhaust.
What I'm trying to do is find new replacement parts for these units so that
anyone who wants to run a Thermasan can do so. The pump is a pretty
standard looking item that can probably be replaced with a new unit. The
controls are pretty simple. BUT, I need detailed pictures/drawings etc for
the injector. Can anybody help me with this item?
Thanks,
Henry
PS TZE # etc will come late this month Dave.
