Help with pentrating oil, travel and more insanity

After the Casa de Fruta visit, my wife and I finally decided how to tackle
the rest of the coach retrofit. Now two problems:

1. I just got a phone call from a client (the same one that kept me from
camping at Casa de Fruta) and I'll be sort of off-list starting Thursday
through about the 17th of May. So, don't expect a lot of responses from me
until then!

2. I can't find the recommendations that folks had for a pentrating
oil/rust buster to use on the inside of the coach for those corroded screws
(I have a ton of them to replace). So, any suggestions would be gratefully
received.

Now for the insanity - we bought a second GMC last month. Well, I should
say that we bought a half of a 77 Royale. The other half that we bought
this month was an engine, transmission, final drive, and a bunch of misc
parts. The previous coach owner had planned to rebuild the drive train and
gave up - selling the cores. So, a coach sat all by its lonesome. The
mechanics who had a lien on it were considering parting it out, but gave me
a reasonably good deal on the shell. I'm looking for anybody's experience
with the rear dry bath that Coachmen put into some of these units. What to
look out for, what to inspect/rebuild that's different from the GMC wet bath?

On another front, I now have owners manuals and a few technical documents
for the Thermasan unit that was an option on the coach. Thetford bought
Thermasan and closed the operation around 1980 when RVs weren't selling too
well. Unfortunately all of the Thermasan experts have retired. I have a
complete unit - minus the injector assembly that goes into the exhaust.
What I'm trying to do is find new replacement parts for these units so that
anyone who wants to run a Thermasan can do so. The pump is a pretty
standard looking item that can probably be replaced with a new unit. The
controls are pretty simple. BUT, I need detailed pictures/drawings etc for
the injector. Can anybody help me with this item?

Thanks,

Henry
PS TZE # etc will come late this month Dave.

Henry,
One of the GMC websites has a detailed drawing
of the thermosan system. I think it's the
patent specs so might be diffrent then the
one used on the GMC. Course..I could be wrong.

Yep! It's mine...

I think that it's basically the same system, but I want to be certain. It's
a bit of work to reverse engineer this thing, and I'd like to make it
conform to the original unit as sold so the retrofit is legal.

I'd really like to get pictures and sketches. I have a pump and the control
system. I'm missing the injector assembly and want to fabricate "new" ones.
I'm very interested in how they managed to keep the hoses etc from
clogging. ALso, the type of material for the injector assembly is quite
important. I think that the injector and screen are stainless, but I don't
know about the rest of the injector parts.

I know someone who

I have one owner's manual and two pages of installation info faxed from the
factory. I'd love to get any more information that you might have. If your
friend want to sell some pieces please let me know.

No faux pas at all... the fact that anyone would remember that I put the
info up is a very good sign for the list. There's a whole lot of GMC stuff
on the net now, and that's making life a lot easier (and cheaper) for
everybody.

Well yeah - I want to recreate the darned thing.

Sorry to hear about your friend. My thoughts are with you.

Emery,
I'm interested. I am a carpenter, messed with
plumbing/waste lines...Hate it. Would think a
thermosan system would be a great benifit to
the GMC. Also..I have in my service manual
" Section 24m " quite a bit of info on the
thermansan system.

I think so - but I'll check. I have all of the parts (I think) for a system
except the injector. Since the injector is installed into the exhaust, I
want to make certain that everything is right before I start messing
around. I need to get sizes, material types, etc to have a unit made up.
Thermasan (Thetford) told me that they didn't have any parts for the units
at all. Otherwise, I'd just buy an injector and be done with it.

Me too! And if the copies work out, I'll post them on my site. Don't think
GM will mind too much since they came from Thermsan, and Thetford doesn't
care.
