Apologies, this is probably covered somewhere but I had no luck with the search engine. Is there a DIY way to re-do the interior headliner and walls
with something that is close to 'factory'?

I'm thinking that the panels can be cut from a hard board material similar to the original, then covered with a headliner material such as this:

maybe even with a layer of foam under the vinyl?

Can you point me to a reference on how to do this? Thanks

I used that stuff too, I like it, but you have to be careful not to over tighten your screws as it dents easy.
But it feels good and took adhesive well.
Remember to use high temperature headliner adhesive or the glue will fail!

Headliner fabric is an easy-to-work-with product. It typically already has a foam layer attached to the back (I am cautious about using the word
"always").

Yes, it can be glued to hardboard using something like this (has to have a high tolerance for heat):

The adhesive is a "contact" style glue, so you will "unroll" the fabric on to the backing and then roll over it with a small roller (available in the
carpet installation section at Home Depot). The foam backing and lightweight nature of the fabric makes it easy to work with. Just let it find its
own, unstretched and unscrunched, shape as it is rolled on to the backing.

For my pickup, the backing is higher density cardboard card stock, and it is just fine. This stuff is sold in upholstery shops to make door panels.

The snakebite fabric goes over the plastic cardboard stuff, you either have to glue down some foam, then you fabric, or if youre lucky the foam is already attached.

From what I've read plus some personal experience, quite a few "Headliner Adhesives" don't hold up well to very hot climates... I've used the 3M one,
and it only lasted about a year or so down here in Texas....

When it failed, I did some more research and read that a lot of pros use a product called "Weldwood Landau Top and Trim Adhesive"

FWIW, I redid the failed 3M headliner with this stuff, and it is still going strong several years later...

You can find it in quarts, gallons and 5 gallon pails depending on how much you need.... One tip to keep in mind: you're probably going to want to
wear a respirator, especially if you are spraying it...

Thanks Todd,

One of the things I like about it is that the center drop section can be taken down easily in order to run new wiring etc. The other thing is the
acoustics. The fabric (hull liner) makes the inside of the coach nice and quiet.

I noticed the same thing (quiet) when I took down the oe vinyl covered
plywood and put up foam backed fabric in The War Pig.

A friend put FRP on the ceiling and his wife was constantly complaining about noise from the engine fan, etc. I notice when it comes on, but it is
not annoying at all. The coach is nice and quiet and comfortable.
