Larry,
Perhaps my experimentation will help you tweak your timing.
Last year I installed an MSD ignition with adjustable timing control. After
much fiddling, I have settled on 11 degrees BTDC for my driving at 5000+ ft
elevation here in Colorado. On high mountain passes I advance an additional
couple of degrees and at lower elevations I scale back to 9-10 degrees. This
is in a GMC with Olds 455 and standard gearing - no towed vehicle.
In other words, I'm running just a degree or two more than the fact. spec.,
with adjustment for elevation.
(We have to work a little harder to breathe and fire a spark here in
Colorado...but it's worth it!!!)

........I am
going to advance my timing from specs. ...... My granny low gearing should
allow a little advance from 8
degrees. All help is appreciated. Larry in MO, PB75
