Going to Reset my Timing

Larry,

Perhaps my experimentation will help you tweak your timing.

Last year I installed an MSD ignition with adjustable timing control. After
much fiddling, I have settled on 11 degrees BTDC for my driving at 5000+ ft
elevation here in Colorado. On high mountain passes I advance an additional
couple of degrees and at lower elevations I scale back to 9-10 degrees. This
is in a GMC with Olds 455 and standard gearing - no towed vehicle.

In other words, I'm running just a degree or two more than the fact. spec.,
with adjustment for elevation.

(We have to work a little harder to breathe and fire a spark here in
Colorado...but it's worth it!!!)

allow a little advance from 8
degrees. All help is appreciated. Larry in MO, PB75

It sure is!
Now if it would only warm up and dry out a little, I could replace my front
wheel bearings!

Larry,
Have you looked at Caspro's EKE (Electronic Knock Eliminator)
http://www.ajusa.com/cgi-bin/shop/viewpart?cart=140069482848049&oid=3114848
? I got one and will be adding it to the "Sweat Lodge" shortly. It will do
what you want on the fly and adjust for differences dynamically. Keeps the
advance on the ragged edge to get you the best it can.

In an effort to improve my milage from 7.5 mpg at 56-58 mph, no toad, I am
going to advance my timing from specs. Someone posted a description of doing
this while a helper is driving the motorhome, and going up a hill, as I
recall. Wasn't paying that much attention as usual. As I recall, the plan is
to advance the timing until pinging is noticed and then back off. I may be
way off on this. My granny low gearing should allow a little advance from 8
degrees. All help is appreciated. Larry in MO, PB75

How much talent is needed to install one of these gizmos?

Bill,
Mine is setting on my living room table. I'll check the data on Gene's site
one more time and probably install it tonight or tomorrow. It looks pretty
straight forward,
