I was wondering if anyone here has ever rented out their GMC. Also do you think
there would be a market for these is someone had 5 or 6 of them to rent out at a time.

Regards,
Bob

There is a guy in Nevada that rents a bunch of GMC’s out for Burning Man. Don;t know what he does the rest of the year though.

I would be reluctant to do that as I don’t think you could insure them for enough to cover the possible damage done by inexperienced drivers! Or if you could the cost would probably be astronomical!
Just my take on it.

On the burning man rental thing, he only made them run well enough to get
there an back. He didn't care what the renters did to them. The BLM raised
holy ned with him if they dropped a tiny bit of oil or anti freeze on their
precious playya.
Don't know if he is still around or not. He upset a whole bunch of people.

$5000.00 for a week of debauchery. Not worth it to me, but what do I know.
I used to bus tables in a Chinese restaurant for .85 an hour back when.

Its one thing to rent a new RV vs a 40+ year old one. The new one has all new parts and can be fixed (likely under warranty) by any mechanic (Garage)
across the country. Our 40 year old machines have worn (but serviceable) parts and chances of finding a mechanic who can fix it where it broke down
are slim.

People going on vacation expect it to work without break-downs. If there is a breakdown they expect it to be fixed immediately at no cost to them
regardless of how it happened. A breakdown ruins their vacation and they will expect a full or partial refund.

Renters are also hard on things. They will drive it into places like its a 4x4. They do not respect your property so expect to get it back scratched
and dented with lots of broken things (like mirrors and cabinets).

Just my experience from 40 years of renting equipment.

I've had people approach me to rent my GMC over the years. I just tell them I don't rent it to anyone, period.

My Staff says I never listen to them, or something like that

GM had a program to rent out your GMC (back when there were GMCMH dealers) as a way to attract more buyers as it would help with the payments. The
logo for the program was not unlike the later Buick Power 6 but instead was a tire with the arrow coming tangentially off the tire to show movement.
As an aside, the Buick version was done by automotive designer Molly, who did the Lexus logo for Toyota, Kawasaki racing green program and many
others. Apparently Jiffy Lube flipped it and with minor changes made it a J as GM did not secure the rights.

Bruce,
You need to understand that NEW RV places are backed up with warranty and
they refuse to do so as they are not compensated properly.
Having the Black List for us and GMC MH repair centers to assist you puts
our old ones more desirable

Understatement of the year? The reviews of his business were the worst I have ever seen. By everyone who bothered to leave one. The whole concept was
a disaster. Pull a bunch of clunkers, don't make them nice or check to see if anything works, and then rent them to people who have no idea what they
were doing. I'd be amazed if he wasn't sued 7 ways to Sunday after the debacle of that one year in 2014 or 2015. Pretty sure he didn't make it to year
2. Here is the wreckage of that idea as it still exists on Yelp.

The guy that was renting out GMC's for Burning Man was still posting on Craigs List last year.

I wonder what name he was using. Hopefully he's made some improvements to his stock. Those things were any cheap junker he could buy and roll to the
desert.

Very few will rent for Burning Man!
I rented an MH the week of Burning Man and each place I talked to told me
I better not be going there because they do not rent for that.

Could you rent for $3900 a year and keep the MH in good enough condition to
run for less than 500 miles and last a week? Would there be any profit left?
As for insurance, most rentals need to get a waiver from your car insurance
company for full coverage on a motor home for the few days you are renting.
Most insurance companies will do that for free if you already have full
coverage. The problem would be they would probably want to settle for
bluebook price rather than the stated value.

I would never even consider renting mine out. I'm reluctant to even let someone I trust completely (my youngest son) borrow it. When I first was
considering buying it, I was thinking of going into a co-ownership agreement with one of my oldest friends. Fortunately, he decided he was not
interested. It never would have worked out anyway

I have invested entirely too much effort, time, and money in the coach to let someone else potentially ruin it for me. It is far too complicated of a
machine for that.

Jim K.:
Way to go my friend - this is the best explanation for owning a 40 to 45 year old GMC that I have ever seen - and I agree w/ it whole heartedly.
Have owned 5 of them in past 6 years - currently down to 3 - will have my best “Elly” (76 Eleganza II - totally refurbished) for sale in about the next month or so.
Ultimate goal is to own our favorite (76 Glenbrook 28’ stretch) only and have it ready for cross country trips at all times.
Might be a bit of a challenge - but like you said - w/ Gr8 parts houses like yours and lots of good old time mechanics - certainly doable - and lots cheaper than a newer Big Rig!
