Fuel question

As long as you guys are talking fuel I have a question. I am a Newbie picking up my “new” 75 Tuesday afternoon in Detroit. I will be traveling to Minnesota to visit my mother for a few hours and on to Colorado. The tanks are full. What grade of fuel should I be using? It looks like it will be beyond chilly for this trip so I am planning on some short stays in truck stops so the engine does not get awful cold before restarting. Any suggestions are appreciated. If all goes well we plan to head to AZ the end of December and give it a through going over. For now I am just wanting to get back to Colorado unscathed. Probably replug and rewire if necessary in CO.
Happy Trails,
Roger

I have always used the low octane (87 or even 85) and had no problems. I
don't know how cold temperatures might change that but I would think lower
would be better there too.

Just use the cheapest you can fine, Roger. It won't matter a bit.

Welcome to the family. What part of CO do you live? There's some from there already down at Quartzite. The CA contingent will be there next month.

Make sure your heater works and hang a curtain behind the drivers seat or you will freeze your ass off.

The upside is vapor lock should be minimal.

Ethanol free and hope that the fuel in the tanks now is also ethanol free or you may be in for some clogged filters. Hopefully the PO has upgraded the fuel system to accept the 10% crap but I would not count on it.

Thanks a bunch.

75 Avion courtesy of Tims family (GreatLakers) I have never been treated so well before purchasing an RV. Tim would be very proud and we intend to continue that tradition in caring for his 75.

Thanks for the thoughts about the ethanol as I was thinking I would stop right after picking the 75 up and load up the tank with deicer and try and dry out any water that may be in the tanks. I think that stuff is either alcohol or may be ethanol based. I think the fuel is fairly fresh as Tim passed away recently and it was winterized prior to his passing. The family has worked hard to make sure it is road worthy as they know the trip I have ahead of me.
Thanks,
Roger

I plan on coming up from Chicago on I-90 only to LaCrosse and going into Winona on Hwy 61 to see my mother. Pop back up onto I-90 in the early afternoon on Wednesday and head for DesMoine for a truck stop layover before heading home on Thursday morning early. The family of the PO indicated the engine was not starting with one pump and they were having it checked today. My hope is it just needs running. If it needs carb work I hope that waits until I get home to Parker, Colorado. That will be another question for another time. Maybe even Friday if I get back OK but recognize I do indeed have a problem. Altitude may be an issue too as I come home.

Not much fuel “deicer” is sold anymore. The ethanol that they add to fuel is the same thing. Ethyl alcohol is ethanol. You’l have a hard time finding non-ethanol added gasoline. So when you put in most gasoline it will absorb any water in the tank (unless you have an inch or so of water :) ). I wouldn’t worry about having any water in the fuel as they probably have been getting ethanol / gasoline fuel.

When you get back to Parker you should consider joining the GMC Mountinaires which is a local GMC club. Lot of members that own GMC are around you.
