Front wheel spacers

The spacers from Applied are going to be your only option unless you have something custom made.(washers behind the wheels will lead to broken studs,
not safe!!)

Calipers, as far as i know, should be the same but again they may have been changed to something else by the PO.

I am not familiar with your rims, but the 80mm usually fit under a 16.5" rim.

the way to easily tell if they are the 80mm calipers is by the brake hose, it uses a banjo bolt rather then the hose screw directly into the caliper.


so look at the photos and compare the hose itself.

Sir, the spacers from Applied are special made for hub centered wheels. Since the Weld wheels are stud centered a standard spacer will work. This is
the kind I use on my Weld wheels. 8x6.5 with 9/16 x 18 studs. I use 2” spacers.

The 80 mm calipers have a "bump" sticking out of one outer side. That bump
touches Alcoa and other 16" wheels until ground down to match the rest of
the housing. I don't know whether it conflicts with OEM 16.5" wheels, but
perhaps that's what's interfering with your Weld wheels?

I have a set of Weld 16.5" wheels (thought they were Alcoa's) on my stock 73. Fit great.

Tried them on my 75 with a Manny 1-ton and they hit on the caliper.

These are what I put on mine to increase the track width closer to the rear wheel distance, quicken the steering response in slow speed maneuvering,
and give the front tires a wider stance during cornering. They are almost $40. more now than when I bought mine. I did not want the 2 inch thick
ones,thought it might stress out the 1973 lugs, but other owners have used them with no problems that I recall reading about. I might be the only
GMCer running the 1.5 inch type. Any spacers will increase the leverage of the tire over the suspension system, and indeed I needed to tweak up the
left torsion bar and replace the right one that had already weakened and twisted over many years.

I've never heard of an 8 on 5-1/2" bolt pattern.

Jim Hupy used to (or maybe still does) make spacers (maybe 1'4" or 3/8' thick) to alleviate clearance problems when using steel 16" wheels on the
front. Maybe they would work for this application too.

I did, but no longer do. Why? Well, my machinist friend who had the big
lathe, his wife died. He became extremely depressed and in spite of his
friends best efforts, turned into a drunken fool. Where he remains today.
I know how he felt (feels) but some very good gmc friends and a
fantastic woman intervened and wouldn't let me kill my self with Jack
Daniels and blues music played way too loud. So I don't have that contact
at my disposal any longer. I do have the services available to me of an
extremely competent machinist, but his custom hourly rate is probitive for
ones and twos of anything. Sorry.

Think it was Jim Bounds, correct me if I’m wrong, did a video saying these Motorhomes weren’t meant or designed to use wheel spacers and
recommends against them
