First Road Trip!

Have an assistant step on the brakes to see if the rear bulbs are good. Try
either/both turn signals and see if the bulbs light. Check the bulb sockets
as well as the bulbs. They can be corroded. Replace suspect bulbs and the
flasher. They are expendable.

Thanks Bruce. And thanks To Carl Harr in Edmonton. Got right back to me (closest Blacklister to where I am) and turned out it was just the fuse.
Pulled the old one, popped in a fresh one (a whole bag of fuses in the storage compartment). Signals are back in action, and I am back on the road.
Gotta love the GMC community!!

Atta Boy, Carl! Glad you have those fuses, Deb. You may need them again.

Revelstoke area looks beautiful. Don't believe we traveled that route.

Deb,

Glad you are underway again.
Fuses do go bad, but more often the holder is corroded.
If you look at the old fuse (hope you still have it), could you see where the middle melted away?
If yes, that is an over current problem and the fuse did what it was supposed to do.
Unfortunately, that also means it is likely to happen again.

If not, then is was probably one of those things that happens.

The fuse actually looks good (though I don't have a circuit tester with me) but the whole fuse board does look a little worse for wear. May well be
the holder. I still have the fuse. Maybe I'll try popping it back in (when I get home! - don't want to jinx anything). But other than that, it was
a very uneventful day. Lovely drive through the Rockies. Actually missed going through Rogers Pass! The whole venue is closed I think for some
major work. I kept waiting to see the sign... never did. Ended up in Golden before I realized I had passed Roger's Pass.

No problems except that the Trans-Canada is one big construction zone right now. Revelstoke to Banff. Loved coming near the bottom of a hill, round
a curve and told that you must slow down to 70 kph, then 50 immediately after. managed to NOT kill the brakes. Hard when you're at 90kph and have 50
yards or less to knock off 20 kph and you're still going down a 4% grade.

Weather took an ugly turn near Calgary (video posted when I get some decent wifi!) but nice here. Clouds rolling in so hope it doesn't hit and give
us miserable Saturday.

So made Okotoks - later than originally planned but still made good time, fuses and construction not-withstanding. At the Okotoks Lions Campground.
Very nice place! Again, if you are looking for a good place, well worth a couple or few days stay I think. Here for 2 nights, pick up my travelling
buddy and then off Sunday for Gull Lake Sask!

A good way to clean the fuse clips is with a Q-Tip dipped in Tarn-X, and then a Q-Tip with clean water. Works great for electrical connectors!

Thanks. I'll do a clean up on the entire board when I get to the end of the first leg.

Next question. First dump with the new jabsco macerator. Worked fine but the fuse holder got very hot. Should I replace the switch? Insufficient for
the draw on the heavier duty pump?

When you clean up the fuse holders, before you reinsert the fuses, coat the metal ends with a conductive antiseize paste. It will help keep the joint
free of crud. And since they are not a great expense, consider replacing all the old fuses with new ones. Keep the tested good old fuses as spares.
Cannot have enough fuses.

Deb,

The heat occurs where the resistance is high, so if the switch isn't hot,
replacing it will do no good. If the fuse holder is hot, it has high
resistance. That may be from too little tension on the clips, corrosion,
or loose connections, but THAT's what you've got to correct.

o reinforce what Colonel Ken said, Any time you have heat you have a connection or device that can not handle the current being put through it. In
the case of a warm / hot properly sized fuse holder, there is a bad connection. This usually due to corrosion, dirt, or lack of tension of the
contacts to the fuse. If the problem were too much current being drawn through it then the fuse should blow, not the fuse holder get hot.

If you continue to have problems with an over heated fuse holder you might consider changing that fuse holder to a circuit breaker with screw type
terminals. They are around $5.00 at Autozone and other auto parts stores.

Deb,

Did you look up the price of Badger?

As much as I might like to have you come through Michigan, it is quite an expensive boar ride.

To quick test the vehicle lights for functioning, I turn on the 4 way flashers and do a quick 360 around the coach and towd.
You can purchase either a heavy duty or solid state flasher. When you convert to LED bulbs, it will force the circuit to work. Remember that GMC's
front and side front markers are tied together, and LED's are not a direct swap. Some minor re-wiring must be done
for the LED's to flash.
2 cents that I found out the head scratching way.

Had a nice day again today. Did a little under 300 miles across prairie terrain. In other words -Flat. Once again no problems. Oil good with no top
up needed. No temperature concerns.

Thanks everyone for the help and suggestions regarding my fuse issues. Maybe that will be my repeating hiccup. Well I have a pile of fuses!!! I'll
take a look at the macerator fuse holder tonight. It's old and likely needs some help. Maybe just giving the springs some extra tension could help.
And Matt - we're booked on the Badger 😝. Yeah it's pricey but it's a holiday and how often will I get that chance. We'll be looking for a decent
campground around Alexandria Minnesota. Any suggestions? We'll be coming in from Portal ND. Doesn't need to be fancy. Clean, power n water and
that's about it.

Deb -

Look an hour further east then Alexandria, MN at St. Cloud, Mn. You can park in my driveway if you like, I am maybe 5 minutes off I-94 exit 171. I
can direct you to free dump site in town, and I have water, and 50 amp.

https://goo.gl/maps/kRePRwpYHxB2

Look me up on the Black list. I could maybe assist in other spots along I-94.

Lake Carlos is great!

that was a yearly spot until MN jacked the price on the vehicle permit. They stick you with a permit for the coach and the towd. I need to get
over that, and just go back because it is a nice place. Lakeside campground is best for he lake views.

there are a few other spots on I-94. Melrose has a city campground, Sauk Center has a campground right in town on the lake.

also just south of Alexandria, Lake Reno Resort usually has a couple sites they rent out.

Osakis has plenty of campgrounds around the lake. There are many campgrounds.

I should of mentioned, you can park in my driveway, or if you prefer, you can pull in my back yard and do some Urban camping. I have a larger
backyard, and a firepit, and can string out a 20 amp cord.

Deb,

If you are going through Alexandria MN, think about taking the time to go see the Kensington Rune Stone in the museum there.
I am not going to say more until you decide if you will make that stop.

A much delayed update. About halfway through. About to start back home next week and it's been an interesting but on the whole uneventful trip.

One blown fuse, one hot fuse holder, broken locking pin spring on the awning, fried the 30A dogbone, also fried one element (and some wiring) on the
water heater when we ran out of water (duh!) and a small leak in the airline at the schrader valve. Nothing that left me stranded anywhere - mostly
inconvenienced or slightly delayed.

We have travelled 4700 km through the Rockies, prairies, isolated country and urban insanity; some great weather, lousy weather (some nasty rain) and
the current ugly hot humid S Ontario summer (45 degrees with the humidex). Haven't had to add oil once, tranny is holding its own nicely, roaring fan
came on only when we crawled along the 401 in Toronto. Temps sitting right where they should be. Only thing I haven't tried yet is running the Onan
for the roof air while we drive. She runs but still sounds like a ball peen hammer inside. I think I will give it a try on a short run tomorrow. Dogs
and I are cookin in there if we aren't moving - like yesterday through Toronto.

I met a fellow in Brighton ON with 3 GMCs - 77 Eleganza II, 78 Royals and a 23 footer of some sort in the back corner of the property. Currently
parked at Guelph Lake across from a 74 Transmode. Cliff n Penny Pike of Heritage Cruisers.

So far it has been a wonderful trip. Learned a lot, met some great folks and plan to meet up with more on the way back home.

More to come 👍
