I am trying to find a part number for a replacement door lock cylinder for my 77 Royale. None of the parts houses around here can find one that
matches the one currently in it. Any assistance would be great.

The latch mechanism is, as Billy says, a Kenworth but it takes a GM tumbler. Any good locksmith can assist you or you might check Applied GMC or other GMC shops.

I will let them know. I didn't want to have to crawl thru the window to get in while at Mansfield!

Thanks

According to my records, I replaced the door latch with a "Peterbilt Door Latch #20-08229R" for $39.82. That was April 2007.

I bought it at this place which is off I75.

Maybe Kenworth and Peterbilt parts are the same now?

If you just want the cylinder and not the latch, my 76 was a plain GM cylinder and I got it (in stock) from AutoZone with two new keys. It was cheap.

If you need to re-key it to match other locks in the coach, Just about any locksmith can do it in a matter of minutes.

The grooves down the side of the key changed by year. If you are re-keying it, then you need to match the new cylinder to your existing key when you
buy it.

That description entered into Google brings up a lot of photos of a
complete latch -- NOT a lock cylinder. And it apparently doesn't even
include a handle.

While we are on the subject of locks.......... What would cause the door not to lock when you psh the button down and close it? Usually I have to try
a few times before it actually locks the door.

Push the lock down, hold the outside door in the "Open" position while
slamming the door. Or better yet, close the door with keys in your hand,
and lock it with the key. Then, you never lock your keys inside, with you
on the outside. BTDT.

In the shaft from the interior lock button to the latch, there's a "barrel
nut" which adjusts the length of the shaft. Careful adjustment of that nut
is necessary. It can either allow the door to be slammed and locked with
the button down (and the keys locked inside). Or, it can be set to cause
the door to unlock when the door is slammed (reminding you to get your key
and lock the door from the outside). I don't (and don't want to) know
whether pulling the outside latch while closing the door will allow it to
lock.
