Greetings !!
I’m messing around with my cooling system. New 195 thermostat, Mercedes fan system, factory temperature gauge (with proper TS-6469 sender), and a
DigiPanel.
I’m skeptical of engine temperature as reported by my DigiPanel. The temp sender for the DigiPanel is a small copper flange that is squeezed into
the thermostat housing. Previously - I could see temperatures as low as 130 while my factory gauge still displayed 180-190. I discovered that this
temperature probe was directly subject to the significant air stream from the radiator fan... I suspected that said air stream was dramatically
cooling the thermostat housing - or at least the probe - and reporting temperature lower than the actual coolant. Convection. I’ve insulated the
probe with some high temp hose insulation. It seems improved - but I have not yet thoroughly tested it.
The same configuration exists for the transmission temperature probe. A small copper flange wedged in with one of the transmission pan bolts. It’s
in the airstream too !!
Any comments on the DigiPanel’s accuracy with such temperature probes ?? Anyone replace these probes with something in the actual liquid stream(s)
