Tom,
There is no duty since NAFTA or very little - .5%, .9%, 1.5% and these
are disappearing year by year. Some of them were at 25% 10 years ago. The
unreasonable and outrageous cost is what couriers call "brokerage fees" -
the cost to the receiver to clear an item through customs. On small items
many times it's more than the cost of the part. The courier companies also
do not explain the item to customs officals so it would qualify for no duty,
such as made in North America, made of fibreglas, and the many other
conditions have mean no duty. That's why I pick items up in Watertown, NY
as you know, Tom, or have it mailed from the US. Didn't you also have the
"brokerage fee" problem with the air tank from Alberta?
