Can we get an EFI subforum?

EFI is important enough to warrant it's own category on this forum. What other category was/is important enough to have had both an GMC EFI Google Group and GMC EFI Facebook page created for the subject? The GG is mostly GM TB EFI and the FB page is for FiTech only. What's needed now is a general GMC EFI forum to help folks choose and maintain any GMC EFI system out there.

On August 21st I PM'ed with @billvv. He said he'd reach out to the other owners of the Google group to gauge interest. I never heard anything back. It would be trivial to set up a new forum section here, but there would be a cost involved to import the existing content from the Google group. I haven't gotten a formal quote due to the lack of interest but it'd probably be in the neighborhood of $1,000 based on what it cost for the GMCnet import.

I suppose we could always just start the subforum here and see how it takes off. Importing content from the old one could always be a nice-to-have upgrade in the future, or if we ever catch wind that the old one will be discontinued. Google always gives tons of notice when discontinuing long-standing services...right?

Google group is on board with any upgrade. But dont know how to move forward. But for sure have no commitment on how to deal with the migration cost.

I honestly dont know how anybody utilizes any archived information in the google group. The actual documents disappeared. We have some copies.

But the efi google group has that is beneficial usually is the folks that get those emails have decades of experience with the gmc efi systems, and hopefully respond to questions asked with advice based on experience.

The gmcnet had that going for it and we have lost alot of experienced, helpful owners over death and just the fact that some did not ever really migrate over to this forum.

But a new subforum could be handy. New efi systems are coming out and there are new people learning and sharing their experiences. stuff is constantly changing.

I'm guessing all the GMCMH-EFI members could take turns copy and pasting the emails into this Forum. My laptop shows 1420 emails since April 2019 when I started using this laptop for emails. The posting dates would show as the date it was added here.
We could send out an email to the members saying "I'm going to post this thread to GMCmotorhome.org" tonight to prevent double postings.
Just an idea.

Sorry for not following up earlier... I emailed Randy VW in March of 2023 about getting the 'Files' from that site but did not get a reply, so I think that discouraged me from proceeding further with the google group.

Google tells me that only the owner of the Google account that created the group can export the postings (that person would be one of the owners of the Google Group listed below; I'm guessing Randy.

bill.van.vlack@gmail.com Bill Van Vlack owner
lqqkatjon@gmail.com Jon Roche owner
my427v8@hotmail.com Keith V owner
n6mon@pacbell.net Terry Taylor owner
rlvanwin@gmail.com rlva...@gmail.com owner

BUT! It turns out that in 2023 that was not the case; at that time they allowed any owner to do the 'takeout' of the group and looking back in my files I see that.....

I ran a takeout of the site at that time!

The takeout folder includes these files...
1734128002127.png

And are stored on my Google Drive for sharing as needed.

It looks like there are about 55 topics added since that time that would have to be transferred manually; otherwise there's three-quarters of a megabyte of posts available for conversion and archiving.

I'll contribute a few $ to have the MBOX file tranlated to XenForo as penance.

FUNDRAISING APPEAL!

We have the opportunity to establish a Fuel Injection subforum in the 'Maintenance, Repairs, and Technical forum of this site that will allow members to post and reply with questions and answers for any/all GMC EFI brands and topics, and to start it off by moving the two decades worth of posts by the pioneers of GMC EFI stored on the GMCMH-EFI site from its Google Group to this site.

Christo has received a quote of $500.00 to do the move, and we are looking for pledges from the community to make this happen. I will pledge $100.00 to start it off! You can pledge here, or PM me if you want to pledge anonymously. I'll post the tally here by editing this post.

We have pledges of [ $565 ] toward our goal of $500!

$50 from me.I believe a lot of us will go this route if we haven’t already. How do we pay up and thanks for all the effort!

Even though I don't have EFI and never intend to, I'm in for $50.
It just makes sense to support a popular upgrade as we try to preserve our aging vehicles.
Just figure out how to send money and let us know the process

(y)(y)(y)(y)(y) FUNDRAISING APPEAL IS A SUCCESS! (y)(y)(y)(y)(y)

We have reached our goal (and then some)!!!

THANK YOU, to everyone that's contributed. But don't stop! Christo can use some help with website support as well.

* I wil contact each person by PM with payment instructions. All funds will be sent to Christo at gmcmotorhome.org to support the cost of migrating the GMCMH-EFI Google Group. Any excess funds (hint) will also be sent to Christo to support the costs of maintaining the gmcmotorhome.org website.
