Can we get an EFI subforum?

Excellent !!

Might any of you fine folks have any insights into the hoping-to-be-resurrected EFI-EBL conversion project ??

Thanks,
Steve W

The consultant is working on the conversion. The format is different than what we imported from gmcnet (even though they were both MBOX files), so it's taking a bit longer to work through. I would estimate we'll be able to publish the new subforum within 2-3 weeks from now. Cheers!

Thanks Christo !! My inquiry wasn’t all that clear.

I meant to ask about the actual process of manufacturing the EBL interface to the TBI control boxes… The single supplier of this wizardry passed away. I had heard that a few capable folks were investigating / reverse engineering and hoping to recreate / continue this product.

Ah, I see. Better to post a new thread for that inquiry please.

UPDATE - I connected with the consultant and he provided the following update:

I have it now to the point where the "input" side of things is done.

It can successfully parse out:

- Threads and each of their posts. There's data available in the mbox format that wasn't available before, so even if there are two threads with exactly the same topic, I'm able to connect which posts belong to which thread.

- Users including email address, user name, role, join date (I'm using either their first post date, or the date in the members.cvs file, whichever is older) and last activity date. Last activity is whichever is older, the members.cvs date or last post date.

- Attachments, which post they belong to.

Now I just need to complete the output side where these are put into the Xenforo database.

We're getting close and it sounds like the results will be much cleaner than the GMCnet import!

UPDATE: We have run into some challenges handling attachments to posts but the consultant is working through it. As a result, the cost of the import will go up a bit but it's still within the amount that was donated. I'll be traveling next week for work but I anticipate being able to deploy the new subforum sometime during the week of February 9 once I'm back at home.

UPDATE: I have reviewed a 'test import' shared by the developer and have reported a half-dozen bugs. It's looking really good in general:

EFI import test.webp
EFI import test - page 1.webp

Once the test import looks good, we'll do the actual import into a subforum on gmcmotorhome.org and we'll merge the forum and efi group user accounts as much as possible (based on email address). If folks end up with multiple accounts they can be merged manually.

The Fuel Injection subforum is live under the Maintenance, Repairs, and Technical section! A big thank you to those who contributed funds to the project: Kendra F, Douglas S, Larry W, Paul F, Richard V, Bill V, Keith V, Tom K, Bruce H, Steve W, Eric S, and Amy M.

As with any import that came from email archives and the various formatting styles of a multitude of email clients, the results aren't always perfect. But, we did our best and the results are even better than the GMCnet import we did a couple years ago. We were also able to retrieve many (but not all) of the attachments. We did not attempt to import the Google Groups files section.

We ended up adding 1,400 threads, 10,900 posts, and 59 new members after some light moderation and cleanup. There appear to be some duplicate accounts, so if you think you may now have more than one forum account, PM me and I can merge everything into your preferred account. Here are a few that may be affected: @Ty Hardiman, @Charles Boyd1, @Don Hart1, @Fred Hudspeth, Frank Sundram, @Hal Kading, @JD Lisenby, @Larry Davick, @Walt Halley, @ellks#hotmail.com.

And most of all, thank you, for doing the work to make this happen! Lots of work on your part to preserve this info and open up a space for any and all types of EFI systems for our coaches.

Thanks again Christo for all the work you put into this forum for us!

I'm guessing we could post BIN files as a Resource under Chassis> Fuel System & EFI

(edited to correct the sub heading for Resource)

I don't have or want EFI, but I am delighted. This whole effort represents the best of what a group of enthusiasts can accomplish-- an archive of extremely specialized knowledge based on lived experience that helps solve problems. What a gift! Count the people: those that camp> those that are willing to drive a vintage motorhome> those with a GMC actively on the road> those with EFI... Now, quick, who ya gonna call when you have a problem? And what if you kind of want to know how big a deal it is to convert from carbs? Now, there is a place where those answers are found. Are you proud yet? Thanks to everyone involved, your efforts will be celebrated as long as there are GMC's on the road. That, of course, goes for the forum as a whole as well. How lucky we are.

I look at it as more of saving a library of precious knowledge. For that, a big thank you to Christo and all the others. Anything we can do to save the archives is a wonderful thing.

Take care and I Look forward to seeing many of you at the Spring Rally.
