I read with some interest the praise of Autozone, and in particular the
pricing on the DL7157 100amp alternator. We don't have Autozones in the
wilds of Canada (or Oregon or Washington for that matter). I have been
traveling in California for the past week, so as soon as I crossed the
border from Oregon, I bought a DL7157. Imagine my surprise when the price
was $107 plus $30 core charge whereas Phil Stewart in Tennessee only paid
$74. When I checked this out with the store manager, he informed me that
often there is regional pricing. Now, I bought the alternator but I'm upset
by the regional pricing. Could a couple of you from different regions call
your autozone and check the pricing and post it? Also, Phil, could you
check if the price has changed at your outlet? Seems to me that this is
something to take up with the corporate office if the price does indeed
vary by 33% for an item like an older alternator.

Autozone quoted me $69.99 plus $ 30 core charge.this is in Memphis home of
Autozone.

In my little, and expensive corner of the world they quoted me a price of
$119.99 plus $30 core charge. Makes California look good doesn't it!

Oh!!! By the way, my corner is in North Babylon NY, which is smack in the
middle of scenic Long Island. Sorry I forgot that in my last post.

Vic,
I'll check on the price but I doubt that it has changed since mid December.
Not that it will make you feel any better, the cost of the rebuilt unit was
$69.99 (USD) here in S.E. TN. The additional $ 5 is local and state sales tax.
I also priced these alternators at Advanced Auto and the price was the same.
Auto Zone and Advance compete aggressively in our area and that could be one
reason the cost is less than what you are seeing in the Northwest. HTH.

I just called an Auto Zone in Abilene, 70 miles NW of here, pop. ~95k

They get $69.99 for the DL7157 there.

This really ticks me off since they want $119.99 for it here.

That's the reason I went to Abilene when I bought my Haydon 2797 Fan
Clutch, too. It was $40.00 cheaper there than here!

I love the atmosphere here in the boonies, but #@*!, I'm paying for it!

:-) Have a nice day.
Support your local business's and shop at home first. (They smile, shake
your hand and ask about the family while they wringe out that last dollar!)

Arch,
You might also want to know if there is serious competition around, like
Advance Auto Parts and other big suppliers.

Roger

Arch,
I think Advance Auto Parts is the new guy on the block. We've had AutoZone
since they started as AutoShack. Had to change their name, wonder why? We
are close to their Memphis HQ and were probably one of the originals years
ago.

Advance just moved in around a year ago, but must be growing big time. We
also have had a new TruckPro open in the last year.

AZ price $69.99+$30 core
will check others tomorrow after the sun comes up. Bet they are all the
same price.

Roger

I'm not. My Ex-wife lives near there. I have to go there once a year
to set up a show, so I bought a time-share condo for that week. That's
enough.

I had posted earlier about my local (long island, NY) price of $119.99. If
competition truly drives the price, my price should be REAL low. Within a 5
mile circle of this AZ there are not 1 but 2 Pep Boys. Within a few blocks
there are three stores from local chains (Auto Barn, US One, AID Auto).
Despite this competition this part costs almost twice what it costs in
Memphis. I understand costs may be higher in NY, but double sounds high.

Thanks for the offer. We get up to Abilene every once in a while
though. I'll just add this to a list of things to pick up while I'm up there.
