Craig at Arrow Distributing informed me this morning that the $324.00 price
is for one bag not two. He will issue pick up slips to any one that calls
him. The truck will come to your home or place of business to pick up the
parcel. A credit will be applied to you method of payment. I for one am
very disappointed with Craig and also Firestone as I discussed this
purchase with Janice before going on the NET with it. A lot of people have
been inconvenience. I apologize for inconvenience that has been caused.

If anyone is going to send their air bags back, have they been picked up
yet? Craig from Arrow told me last Thursday that he was going to have ups
pick up the bags. No sign of a brown truck in my driveway yet.
I am about to start charge back proceedings on the credit card. Maybe that
will move him off of dead center(that is if he is still working there).

The method that is probably being used is a service by UPS called a "Call
Tag" This is prepared by the shipper that wants an item returned and is
willing to pay for the returned freight as well as a fee for the call tag.

It goes from the shipper along with his normal packages. It takes the same
amount of time to reach you as a a normal ground shipped package would. The
form has you name and address already filled out plus a description of what
is being picked up. There is also a receipt section which you will be
given. This is the proof that a package was picked up from you for the
shipper. You may be asked to sign a shipping record for the driver, but
probably will not.

All that could go wrong after that would be UPS loses or damages the
package in which case the original shipper would look to the insurance for
reimbursement. Worse for us is the package is damaged and something comes
out. Then hope what came out was heavy because UPS will pay on shortages
when the received package is lighter than when they accepted it.

The last scenario is that the shipper acknowledges he received the package
but the items you were to return were not in it. After all 20 lbs of bricks
are a lot cheaper than a air bag and cones. If you never opened the package
a statement to that effect plus the receipt from the call tag is all you
need to sustain a charge back. If you did open it a photo of the contents
being repackaged along with the receipt is fine.

Hope this helps everyone in getting this mess resolved. Frankly I surprised
given the volume of the error that the supplier could not have realized
that by the time all these return charges were paid that they might as well
honor the original sales basis.

Keep a tight hold - when I last talked to Firestone about the bag (last
year) they told me that the mold was damaged. I haven't gotten the same
story from them two times in a row. I suspect that they are charging
"market" prices for these things.

OTOH, based on everyone's experience, I think that this is one item that
it's worthwhile buying from Cinnabar for certain.

I switched the Palm Beach over to the 4-bagger for toher reasons that I
posted before. I had planned to switch when I needed a new bag anyway.

All,
Further to this evolving saga: Just got a call from Craig at Arrow to tell
me that Firestone has made a price concession (I guess it's an effort to
keep their warehouses from filling up with returned air bags). Craig says
the EACH BAG (with aluminum cones) will now carry a delivered price of
$280.00, a $44.00 PER BAG cut. I was asked if I wanted these bags for this
price?
Question to the wise, sagacious and learned elders of the GMCNet list:
Do I want these bags (and cones) at $280 PER BAG or can I get a bag with
aluminum cones delivered for less?
Craig told me that I was the first on his list of calls to make on this
topic today. The rest of you will soon be getting the same call.
Thanks.

Scott, I DO need the cones. My OEM plastics self-destructed upon
disassembly of the original bags.
My gut tells me to swap to the two-bagger system. Heck, at these original
bag prices, I'm half way there for the Harrison retrokit -- which, I
understand comes with bags. And replacements for those bags can be
purchased down the road from a number of outlets beside Firestone or
Firestone associated firms.
And I wonder how much longer the Firestone OEM bags will be available at ANY
price in 10 or 15 years. Given the instant fiasco, if they ARE available,
my bet is that they will cost at least one first-born male child and the
port-side portion of one's vital external reproductive system.
Jeez, the more I think and post about this, the more convinced I am that the
two-bagger conversion is the way to go.
Not feeling too warm and fuzzy about Firestone at the moment (a feeling
which promises to last for quite some time).

PS: Bought Patrick Flowers that promised CRACKER BARREL breakfast this
morning. Nice guy and a real gentleman to whom we all owe a major debt for
operating this important service.
